A Guide to Clearing Bounties in Starfield

Engaging in any unlawful activities will result in a bounty being placed on your head, potential imprisonment, and pursuit by heavily armed guards and vigilant citizens.

Bethesda

In the vast expanse of the Settled Systems, it's easy to find yourself embroiled in criminal activities, whether it's an unintentional mishap, an ill-fated pickpocketing attempt, or an accidental weapon discharge. Such actions often lead to the issuance of a bounty on your head, leaving you to wonder how to absolve yourself of this predicament. Worry not, as we present a concise and comprehensive guide to removing bounties in Starfield.

Clearing Your Bounty

To rid yourself of a bounty within the Settled Systems, follow these steps:

  1. Locate a Trackers Alliance Self-Service Bounty Clearance Kiosk: These kiosks, recognizable by their white and red color scheme, are situated in various civilian outposts and spaceport bars across the galaxy. You can find them in locations such as the Astral Lounge on Neon, the Broken Spear in Cydonia, or the Viewport in New Atlantis.

Important Note: Ensure you use a kiosk that belongs to a different faction from the one where your bounty originated. Attempting to clear a United Colonies bounty from a New Atlantis kiosk, for instance, will result in a message stating that local regulations prohibit the Trackers Alliance from providing this service within United Colonies territory.

  2. Select the Desired Bounty for Clearance: At the kiosk, choose the specific bounty you wish to clear. Here, you will receive a detailed breakdown of your offenses, including your current bounty amount and the cost to expunge your criminal record.

  3. Settle Your Outstanding Bounties: After reviewing your criminal record, make the necessary payments to clear your bounties. Once paid off, you'll regain the freedom to move about the faction's space without restrictions.

Understanding the Crime System

In Starfield, several actions can lead to the issuance of bounties and potential jail time. These actions include:

  • Murder or assault of a friendly individual.
  • Trespassing on private property.
  • Pickpocketing (Only when resisting returning stolen property).
  • Hacking into owned objects.

Engaging in any of these unlawful activities will result in a bounty being placed on your head, potential imprisonment, and pursuit by heavily armed guards and vigilant citizens.

If you evade apprehension but return to faction space without settling your bounty, you may find yourself confronted by guards. In such cases, you can opt to pay a fine or have the guards escort you to jail. Resisting arrest or being unable to afford fines will lead to jail time, resulting in the loss of experience points and the confiscation of all stolen goods from your inventory.
