In Hades 2, Zagreus steps aside from the role of protagonist to make way for his sister, Melinoe, the Goddess of Nightmares and Ghosts. And Melinoe isn't the only newcomer to the cast in Hades 2. So, which gods are returning from the first game, and which are making their debut in Hades 2? Let's find out.
As a brief disclaimer, we don't know every god in Hades 2 just yet. There may be some surprises by the end of the game, but here's all we know so far!
New Gods Coming to Hades 2
Apollo: God of the Sun and Light
The first god you'll encounter in Melinoe's quest in Hades 2, Apollo arrives to provide boons that daze your enemies. He is also known in Greek myth as the God of poetry, knowledge, music, and prophecy.

Hestia: Goddess of Hearth and Flame
Daughter to Theia and Hyperion, and sister to Helios, Selene, Eos, Demeter, and Hera, Hestia arrives to bless Melinoe with boons related to fire. She originally joined Zeus' side in the battle against the Titans, attaining godhood with Zeus' blessing after the battle was done.
Hephaestus: God of the Forge
Hephaestus is, according to Greek legend, the god of many things including fire, volcanoes, and crafts. In Hades 2, he will appear as the God of the Forge to augment Melinoe's powers.

Moros: God of Doom
Said to torment mortals with knowledge of their impending death, Moros is one of the many children of Nyx. The God of Doom is likely to offer his aid by augmenting our skills with... well, doom effects!
Nemesis: Goddess of Revenge
Nemesis is the Goddess of Revenge in Greek myth, though would later come to be known as the herald of the gods' anger and envy by ancient Romans. She aids in the training of Melinoe before she sets out on her task to battle the Titans.

Selene: Goddess of the Moon
With a crescent headdress that matches that of Melinoe, Selene offers boons that morph enemies into miniature creatures for a short time.
Old Gods Returning to Hades 2
Aphrodite: Goddess of Love and Passion
The ever-beautiful (and semi-naked) Aphrodite returns to offer her boons in Hades 2. Her trademark effect is applying the 'weak' debuff on enemies, greatly reducing their damage output.
Artemis: Goddess of the Hunt
Artemis returns in Hades 2 to continue providing us with powerful critical strike chance and critical damage buffs, massively boosting our chances of scoring devastating hits on anything that gets in our way.

Demeter: Goddess of Seasons
Known more accurately as the Goddess of the Harvest in ancient Greek myth, Demeter is mother to Persephone and is, therefore, grandmother to Melinoe. Her boons in Hades 2 are centered around freezing effects which temporarily stun enemies.
Hypnos: God of Sleep
Unsurprisingly, most interactions with Hypnos will begin and end with him sleeping. But hey, he's back too.
Poseidon: God of the Sea
Uncle to Melinoe, Poseidon returns in Hades 2 offering boons focused on knock-back effects. Knocking enemies back into solid terrain such as walls and pillars will make them doubly vulnerable to damage!
Zeus: God of the Sky and King of the Olympians
Making a comeback with his lightning-based boons, Zeus is certain to feature heavily in Hades 2's narrative tale with his overbearing pride.

Which Other Gods Are Returning in Hades 2?
- Megaera: After becoming such a well-liked character in the original, it's hard to imagine that Megaera will not make an appearance in Hades 2, though time will tell.
- Zagreus: Given that Melinoe is Zagreus' sister, we can almost certainly expect to bump into our wayward sibling sooner or later in Hades 2.
- Hades: As the namesake of the series, similar to Zagreus, it feels all but inevitable that the God of the Underworld himself will feature as a voiced character at some point in Hades 2. This is especially the case given it is Melinoe's mission to free Hades from imprisonment.
Many secrets yet remain undiscovered in Hades 2 and, until it launches, we won't know for sure which gods are missing from this list. We'll keep you posted. Make sure to check out our other Hades 2 articles in the meantime!
