The sixth major patch for Baldur's Gate 3 is almost here, and even though the game has not taken on the live-service model, it seems like the developers are not quite done with updating it. Patch 5 was released a couple of months ago and it brought some of the most requested features from the player base, which were the new epilogue scenes, as well as Honor Mode. With the game finally feeling complete, Larian has stepped back and started to work on improving a lot of the existing features within the game.

Patch 6 is set to release this week, rumored to be on Valentine's Day, and it will contain some highly requested adjustments, including some quality-of-life changes to party management, a fix for the annoying Shield Bash bug, as well as a change to one of the most annoying things that can happen during your playthroughs. Here is everything you need to know.

Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 6 Early Notes

Larian Studios recently made a post on Twitter/X that teased some of the upcoming features of Patch 6 for Baldur's Gate 3. The patch is rumored to be releasing on Valentine's Day and it's going to be 21GB, which is quite large for an update. New kissing animations for some of the main cast of characters were also teased a couple of days ago, which will be perfectly in theme for the speculated release date of the patch. Here are all of the changes that are coming to Patch 6 of Baldur's Gate 3:

Dismissing Party Members

One of the teased changes coming to Patch 6 is a big quality-of-life update that will allow you to dismiss your party members by talking to the companion you want to join in on the fun. Previously, you would have to run back and forth, dismissing an active member and then inviting another, and this was quite tiring, especially in some of the larger campsites that you can find later in the game. Quality-of-life improvements are always welcome, and we can't wait to see what else will be added with Patch 6.

While a little exercise is good for the body, running back and forth between party members to dismiss them can be tiring - so you’ll now be able to dismiss a recruited companion from your party while speaking to the companion you want to replace them with!

Shield Bash Fix

The Shield Bash reaction has been bugged for quite some time now, and it seems like it is finally going to get fixed. Using a shield on any of your characters and receiving a melee attack allowed you to use the Shield Bash reaction, but aside from a small animation, it didn't really do anything. Shield users are finally going to be able to knock some of their enemies prone when engaging in melee combat!

Plus, Shield Bash has returned home!

Shield Bash and Rebuke of the Mighty have been fixed, which means your passives should now correctly trigger Saving Throws.

Avatar Dialogue Priority

By far, the biggest change that has been teased so far for Patch 6 is related to the dialogue priority issue that has been around since the release of the game. Usually, when you transition from combat into a dialogue cutscene, the game is supposed to prioritize your main character as the head of the party. This did not work properly, and players were constantly getting a random player stuck in dialogue, which is both immersion-breaking and could require a reload based on the situation. This issue will finally be fixed (hopefully), and your main character should always be the face of your party going forward!

With Patch 6, automatically triggered dialogue will now try to prioritise your avatar as the main speaker, so your party members should stop stealing the limelight!

That covers all of the teasers that Larian Studios posted today about the upcoming Patch 6 for Baldur's Gate 3. Barring any delays, the sixth major patch for the game is going to be releasing this week and we will be covering the full patch notes as soon as they are released.
