Baldur's Gate 3, hailed by most outlets as the best game of 2023, recently made its debut on Xbox, approximately four months after its initial release on other platforms. While this is exciting news for fans of Microsoft's premier console, the game's launch on Xbox was tainted by a significant issue – a game-breaking bug that resulted in the deletion of save files. Many players lost their progress, some of whom had invested close to a hundred hours in the game. In a recent tweet, Xbox Support confirmed that this issue is now a thing of the past. Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox Save File Issue Has Been Fixed

Ever since Baldur's Gate 3 released on Xbox during the Game Awards show, players have been reporting a game-breaking bug that results in the deletion of save files, losing hundreds of hours of progress. Larian Studios have previously stated that this issue is on the side of Microsoft, with other games sharing a similar fate.

Earlier today, the official customer support account for Xbox tweeted that the issue surrounding the loss of save files should now be fixed, following the latest console update. Here is the full tweet by Xbox:

While we still don’t recommend powering off your console by unplugging it, a fix for this issue is included in the latest console update.

This tweet also referenced an earlier statement by the same account, which provided details on how you can try and avoid the issue on your end before they were able to find the correct way of fixing it. Here are the steps that Microsoft recommends in case you still have this problem following the update.

Xbox is aware of a problem that can cause players to lose saved progress in Baldur’s Gate 3. In order to avoid this issue players should save their game and then return to the Xbox dashboard and select “Quit Game” or “Save to Quick Resume” from the game menu (Home, Game, Select, and then choose "Save to Quick Resume" or "Quit") when they finish playing. Users should not disconnect their console from the power. Users should select “shut down” from the console menu and leave their Xbox connected to power. We are working to fix this ASAP.

That is everything you need to know about Baldur's Gate 3's save file issue on Xbox. Hopefully the latest console update was able to fix the issue, so you can be able to invest a hundred more hours into the best game of 2023. If your save files keep getting corrupted, we recommend contacting the Xbox customer support account for more information.
