That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken) is a story that follows Satoru Mikami who ends up getting killed and reincarnated as a slime, and a weak one at that.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, or also TenSura for short, is an interesting adventure that follows Rimuru Tempest’s adventure through a new world in a completely new body.

The anime is similar to Solo Leveling in that it features an overpowered character that has become like that through various strokes of good luck. The anime has a slightly more comedic tone than Solo Leveling, and is quite easy-going compared to the slightly brutal nature of Solo Leveling, but even so TenSura has a number of great battle scenes and is overall a joy to watch!

Overlord

Overlord

Another great example of a game-like mechanic incorporated into an anime is Overlord.

Momonga, our main character, is an avid player who, in the closing moments of the game, is taken inside and granted complete control over his avatar, starting his story as Ainz Ooal Gown.

The plot follows Ainz Ooal Gown closely as he explores this virtual world in an attempt to figure out what went wrong and whether anyone else is going through something similar.

Like Solo Leveling, here we also have an overpowered character that is thrown into an unfamiliar world and is battling to make ends meet. Overlord is a great action, adventure anime that is sure to scratch your itch!

So I'm a Spider, So What?

So I'm a Spider, So What? (Kumo desu ga, Nani ka?) is another great reincarnation anime that aired back in the start of 2021.

Although fans might have forgotten this one, or completely overlooked it, So I’m a Spider, So What? is a great, addictive and fun story that follows a girl being reincarnated into a spider and trying to figure out how to live in an otherworld filled with magic and monsters.

So I’m a Spider, So What? similar to Solo Leveling and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a great story that features game-like mechanics where the main protagonist grows stronger and stronger with each passing episode, eventually becoming overpowered beyond belief.

If you have not given So I’m a Spider, So What? a chance, then now is the perfect time to do so!

Episodes: 24

Studio: Millepensee

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Comedy

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka) is a story not about any teleportation or monsters invading a normal world, but of a world that already has monsters and magic in it.

The anime follows Bell Cranel as he aims to become the greatest adventurer that the land has ever known. We watch Bell’s struggles as he ventures into the [Dungeon], a series of catacombs filled with monsters. Similar to Solo Leveling here we once again have a character that uses a dagger to make his living in the world, and although the anime takes some time to pick up speed, it is a fun ride that offers something similar yet different to Solo Leveling.

Episodes: 59 (Season 1 - 13 / Season 2 - 12 / Season 3 - 12 / Season 4 - 22 [Part 1 & 2])

Studio: J.C.Staff

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

GATE

GATE

GATE (Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri) is one anime that has been forgotten with time. It aired back in 2015, and for its time it was quite the hit. It offered a new perspective on the isekai genre, and rather than having people be reincarnated to other worlds, it took the other worlds and brought them to Earth, just like Solo Leveling.

GATE follows Youji Itami as he is tasked with leading Japan’s Self-Defense Forces to venture into an unknown portal that has suddenly opened in Japan, which leads to a completely mysterious world. There Youji meets new companions and many enemies.

The anime is an interesting one to pick up, and although it doesn’t offer an overpowered protagonist as the other anime in this list, it is nonetheless a good choice to pick up and watch!

Episodes: 24

Studio: A-1 Pictures

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Watch Time: ~ 530 minutes / ~ 9 hours
