Borderlands fans have been eagerly awaiting news of the next installment in the popular looter shooter franchise. With developer Gearbox Software dropping hints recently, speculation is mounting that Borderlands 4 announcement could be just around the corner. This article will talk about  Borderlands 4 reveal date and what you can expect from the game!

Borderlands 4 Reveal Date

Over the past few weeks, Gearbox has been posting weekly story recap videos on social media, starting with the original Borderlands game and following up with Borderlands 2.

If the next recap focuses on Borderlands 3, an announcement of Borderlands 4 could come as soon as February 27. However, if Gearbox opts to recap The Pre-Sequel and/or Tales first, the reveal may be pushed back to March 5 or March 12.

Regardless, it seems highly unlikely that Gearbox would hype up fans with these story videos without delivering some big news soon after. The 5-year gap between Borderlands 3 and now also lines up with a typical development cycle for a new game.

What to Expect From Borderlands 4

While concrete details are still scarce, there are a few educated guesses we can make on what to expect from Borderlands 4 based on past games and industry trends:

• New Vault Hunters - A fresh cast of playable character classes is a given. Their backstories and skill trees will flesh out the lore.
• More Open World Elements - Borderlands 3 already expanded the scope beyond Pandora. BL4 could push this further with seamless open zones.
• Next-Gen Optimization - As a next-gen title, visuals and performance will see a boost on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
• Post-BL3 Story - The events of BL3 expanded the narrative universe substantially. BL4 will pick up these threads and advance the overarching plot.
• New Planet(s) - Past games have continually introduced new worlds beyond Pandora. Expect even more environmental diversity.
• Return of Old Favorites - Recurring characters like Lilith and fan-favorite NPCs will likely come back in some capacity.
• Killer Soundtrack - The series is known for its stylish tunes. A new lineup of tracks seems certain.
• Innovative Gameplay - Gearbox will build on BL3's additions with new movement options, weapons, character abilities, multiplayer features, endgame content, and more.

The Waiting Game

While signs point to a Borderlands 4 announcement being imminent, fans will have to hold tight a bit longer for a full reveal. If the previous pattern holds, the actual release is at least a couple of years out.

Yet with each past game, Gearbox has expanded the Borderlands formula in exciting ways. Borderlands 4 should be the most ambitious entry yet, making the long wait worthwhile.
