In Starfield's Unearthed mission, players face a crucial decision: whether to side with The Emissary or The Hunter. This choice significantly impacts the game's ending and storyline. Here's a breakdown of what happens with each choice:
Siding with The Emissary:
By choosing to align with The Emissary, you'll face The Hunter as the final boss of the game. The Emissary believes in deciding which humans become Starborn, rather than letting humans choose for themselves. You'll need to convince or fight The Hunter.
Key Points:
- In the mission "Revelation," you'll encounter and battle various Starborn as you progress toward the final artifact.
- The final showdown is with The Hunter. If you defeat him in combat, you'll receive the "Unmitigated Violence" weapon—a unique laser rifle. This weapon deals random radioactive damage, doubles damage against full-health targets, and has a chance to frenzy a target.
- If you choose to talk The Hunter down instead of fighting, you won't receive the "Unmitigated Violence" weapon. Acquiring the final artifact allows you to build the Armillary and proceed to The Unity.
- The Emissary remains in the current universe to identify others worthy of becoming Starborn.
Siding with The Hunter:
Opting to side with The Hunter also leads to a confrontation with The Emissary at the end of the game. However, The Hunter gives you an additional task during the "Infinity's End" quest, asking you to eliminate Keeper Aquilus. You can choose to kill Keeper Aquilus or persuade him to hide. If you choose the latter, you must then persuade The Hunter that you carried out the deed.
Key Points:
- The "Revelation" mission remains unchanged, involving battles with Starborn on your way to the final artifact.
- After finishing Unearthed, you'll receive the "Infinity's End" quest from The Hunter, involving Keeper Aquilus. You can kill Keeper Aquilus or convince him to hide. If you opt for the latter, you'll need to persuade The Hunter that you completed the task.
- Successfully persuading The Hunter results in receiving "The Last Priest," a unique melee weapon, as a reward, along with XP.
- Upon reaching the final artifact, you can choose to talk down or kill The Emissary. If you choose the latter, you'll obtain "Eternity's Gate," a unique particle beam rifle. This weapon deals +10% damage against humans, fires two projectiles every fourth shot, and has volatile rounds that can pack a bigger punch, albeit with occasional instability.
- The Hunter also enters The Unity to explore another new universe.
Going Solo (Siding with Neither):
Opting to go solo means you'll face a more challenging final mission. You'll need to battle both factions of the Starborn army and, at the end, confront and either talk down or fight both The Emissary and The Hunter. This path allows you to earn both unique weapons but requires more effort and time.
Now that you understand the consequences of siding with The Emissary, The Hunter, or going solo, you can make an informed decision in Starfield's Unearthed mission. Keep in mind that your choice will significantly influence the game's outcome.
