Civilization 7: Release Date Speculation, Gameplay Reveal, and More

After a mountain of DLCs and an 8-year lifespan, Civilization 6 is finally passing the torch to its successor, Sid Meier's Civilization 7. Given the track record of Civ games, Civilization 7 is all but certain to claim the throne of the most-played hex-based 4X strategy title upon release. So, when does Civilization 7 release and what can we expect in terms of new features? Let's get into it!

Civilization 7 New Features

The Civilization series has ever been a love letter to culture and history, and Civilization 7 is certain to stay true to that trend. Civilization 6 saw us progress through distinct ages, assemble in the World Congress, and battle through natural disasters from meteor showers to coastal flooding. While as yet unconfirmed, Civilization 7 is unlikely to abandon the most popular DLC features that made Civ 6 a stand-out title.

Speaking of mods, Civilization has long been a supporter of user-created mods to add spice and quality of life changes to your games. Civilization 7 is likely to follow in Civ 6's footsteps in regards to modding.

A chief complaint many players have with Civilization 6 is that, while the early and mid game feel extremely engaging, the late game can feel sluggish due to the sheer amount of micromanaging that becomes necessary. Will Civilization 7 bring with it more automation (or some other fresh solution) to alleviate these end-game issues? Time will tell.
