Now that the ten-year Light and Darkness saga has officially come to an end with Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion, developer Bungie has turned its focus to the future and shared more details about what's next for its live-service shooter, including a tease of the mysterious Codename: Frontiers, whatever it may be, coming next year.
When Bungie teased The Final Shape in August last year, it announced that 2024 would bring a substantial change to the way Destiny 2 content is distributed. Instead of four yearly Seasons, they announced three "larger, content-packed" Episodes, each containing separate stories divided into three six-week Acts.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape Episodes
Each episode will consist of a three-act storyline centered on old and new friends and rivals. Each act will have activities that develop with time, as will their prize pools.
Bungie has designed Episodes to provide more meaningful reward routes based on your journey, while also guaranteeing that there are plenty of mysteries to find, compelling reasons to return each time a new act is released, and interesting build possibilities to tackle new difficulties.
The first episode, Echoes, premieres on June 11 and picks up directly after the events of The Final Shape. Everything takes place on Nessus, where ancient secrets must be discovered and a mysterious new threat must be confronted.

Echoes will be followed by Revenant later this year. Bungie's previous roadmap stated July to October, which will include a vampire-hunting theme as players take on the Fallen as Slayer Barons. There's also a new potion brewing system, which includes combat and loot potions, as well as new story elements, objectives, and rewards that will appear in all three episodes.
Finally, among the announced Episodes is Heresy, which is expected to launch between November and February of next year and promises to be a true blast from the past, transporting players back to the Dreadnaught from Destiny's The Taken King expansion.
Destiny 2 Codename: Frontiers
Destiny 2's year 2025 appears to begin in earnest with a mysterious new feature known only as Codename: Frontiers. It is presently unknown what it is, but the fact that Bungie did not just write “more Episodes” in their statement has some thinking that it is a new expansion, possibly kicking off Destiny's next major story arc.
Given that Bungie still has three Episodes to release before Codename: Frontiers launches, it's unlikely that we'll hear more about it anytime soon. For the time being, though, all eyes are on Echoes to see if the change in Destiny 2's content delivery system is something to get excited about.
