Diablo 4 is making significant improvements to its mount system, addressing player feedback and frustrations. In the latest Campfire Chat, where several positive changes were announced, a rework to mounts was revealed to enhance the traversal experience in the vast open world of Sanctuary.
Initially, players found the mounts in Diablo 4 to be tedious, with frequent dismounting required. Responding to community concerns, Blizzard acknowledged the design flaws that made using mounts less enjoyable than intended. One major issue was the lengthy cooldown when dismounting, which compounded with monster barricades, making it frustrating to move across the open world.
The upcoming Patch 1.1.1 brings numerous positive changes to the game, as discussed during the Campfire Chat, and one crucial point that was not explicitly mentioned was addressed on Twitter by Joe Shely. The mount changes now allow mounts to charge through barricades, removing a significant source of frustration for many players. This change has garnered widespread praise, even from the more skeptical voices within the community.
While the speed limit in Region Capitals and the mount cooldown still pose inconveniences to players, the removal of the barricade issue stands as a noteworthy improvement. Additionally, despite premium mount armors being available in the microtransaction store, Blizzard has ensured that cosmetic options are plentiful throughout the game, obtainable through achievements or treasure goblins. The Season of the Malignant and its Battle Pass also introduced a new mount armor, demonstrating the developers' commitment to ensuring players have enjoyable long-term experiences with mounts.
However, Diablo 4 still faces challenges in reaching its full potential, as convenience and quality-of-life features are lacking. According to developer comments, addressing these issues may take until Season 3. Despite the backlash to Season of the Malignant, Blizzard's response indicates their willingness to listen to player feedback and collaborate with the community for better gameplay experiences.
