The patch notes for the upcoming Diablo 4 1.4.0 update have finally arrived, and alongside all of the major reworks to the itemization system, we also have a wide array of changes and additions to the endgame content of the game. With so many new features coming to the game, players are excited to see how the entire experience is going to change in the coming months. It feels like it's going to be make or break for the Diablo 4 team upon the release of Season 4.
One of the highlights of the recent reveal was a brand new endgame system, called the Pit of Artificers, which is finally going to allow players to test their characters against an 'infinitely' scaling dungeon. Here is everything you need to know about the Pit of Artificers in Diablo 4 Season 4.

Diablo 4 Season 4: New Pit of Artificers Endgame Content Explained
The Pit of Artificers is going to be very similar to Greater Rifts in Diablo 3, a randomized dungeon with a set time limit, in which you have to defeat a certain amount of enemies, concluding in a boss battle. The Pit is going to begin at monster level 100, and it will not have any of the afflictions or bonuses from Nightmare Dungeons. The penalty for dying in the Pit is a hefty time reduction, which will prevent glass cannon builds from being too strong.
The Pit also has some incentives to run it, with upgrade materials for the new Masterwork crafting system being exclusive to the game mode. There are going to be three different crafting materials available, with the most valuable ones being available at higher levels. Another material that can drop from the Pit are Stygian Stones, which are going to allow you to summon level 200 versions of the endgame bosses in the game. This will not only provide an extra challenge but also greater rewards, including Resplendent Sparks and Uber Uniques.
Here are all of the details you need to know about the Pit of Artificers in Diablo 4 Season 4:
- Upon entering World Tier IV, you’ll receive a priority Quest to complete a Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon. Upon completion, you’ll begin to collect Runeshards during endgame activities. Collect enough Runeshards to ultimately activate the Obelisk in Cerrigar.
- Activating the Obelisk will send you to The Pit. Your goal will be to slay enough monsters before a 10-minute timer runs out. Each player death removes time from the clock: first death removes 30 seconds, second death removes 60 seconds, third and subsequent deaths will remove 90 seconds.

- If you slay enough monsters, a portal will appear, taking you to the boss’s arena.
- Killing the boss before the timer expires will grant you Masterworking materials and unlocks the next tier of The Pit.
- Killing the boss with 4-6 minutes to spare grants you an additional Tier unlock.
- Killing the boss with 6 or more minutes to spare grants you two additional Tier unlocks.
- The Pit has hundreds of Tiers of difficulty.
- If the Mastery timer expires before you finish running through the Pit you’ll still receive loot, but won’t receive any Masterworking materials.
- The Pit can be undertaken with groups up to four, with the player who opened The Pit receiving the lion’s share of materials.
- Only the player who opened The Pit has the chance of receiving the Materials used for summoning Tormented Echoes.
That is everything you need to know about the brand new Pit of Artificers endgame dungeon that will become available in Season 4. If you want to test out this feature earlier than that, you will be able to do so by joining the Public Testing Realm that will go live on April 2nd.
