Discover details about the three game modes that have been announced so far in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO and what you can do in them!

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO is the newest Dragon Ball set to hit the gaming world, and it’s the first Dragon Ball game in a ton of years to try and recreate the success of the Budokai Tenkaichi series.

DBSZ will feature an extensive cast of 180+ characters for players to battle and create memorable experiences with. By this point, you’re probably wondering where you’ll be able to use this cast of characters. Well, you don’t need to worry for much longer, as below we’ll explain the game modes that will be present in DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO.

Story Mode

The first single-player mode we’ll be looking at is known as Episode Battle. Episode Battles are DBSZ’s way of telling the story of Dragon Ball. These story battles will let you enjoy the point of view of eight different characters:

  • Goku
  • Vegeta
  • Gohan
  • Piccolo
  • Future Trunks
  • Frieza
  • Goku Black
  • Jiren

By picking one of the above characters, players will get to experience famous battles from the anime.

Note: The number of battles varies for each character.

The character with the most battles is Goku, which was to be expected. During these battles, players will get to choose whether to explore the original scenario of a famous battle or switch it up by changing the script and exploring a whole new iteration of the story.

For example, in Goku’s battle against Raditz, you can trigger a certain condition that will allow Goku to stay alive and train Gohan in Picollo’s place. The developers have mentioned that depending on what choice you make, you can drastically alter the outcome of a battle scenario. That being said, even if you try to stir the original scenario in a different direction, you might still find yourself following the original story in the end, so make sure to experiment. All in all, it’s going to be a wild ride.

Custom Battle

Next up is the Custom Battle mode. This mode will allow players to create original scenes and share their amazing creations with the world. What does that mean? Well, rather than having the 8 characters from the Story Mode, you will be able to pick and choose from the whole cast and create your unique scenarios.

For these scenarios, you will be able to pick from various tools, such as cutscenes and setting events, to create unique and never-before-seen battles. How this works is that players will get to choose from a set of cutscenes to start that battle. These cutscenes show a conversation between different characters. After this, you will get to battle. During the battle, you will be able to set up different conditions, with over 300 battle situations and victory conditions. Some of these will trigger special gimmicks, while others will make the battle truly challenging.

You will be able to edit almost anything, allowing you to create amazing original battles, which you can then share with the community to enjoy. However, beware, before you share those creations with the rest of the community, you’ll first have to clear the battle yourself, so don’t go making; even a power level of over 9000 won’t be able to beat!

Tournament Mode

The Tournament Mode is the last piece of information we’ll be looking at today. It is, as its name implies, a tournament-style battle mode where you will get to pick a character and fight your way through the tournament rankings to eventually win it all.

Tournaments will also have different conditions, making them either easier or harder, and after each battle, you will only get to keep a portion of your remaining health rather than be fully healed, which will have you working even harder to win those battles so that you can eventually win.

Similar to the Custom Battles, players will be able to tweak the settings of the Tournaments to make them more enjoyable, so be sure to play around with it when the game releases on October 11, 2024.
