Several Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players have voiced concerns about the low-quality graphics. This is only noticeable when playing the game in Performance Mode. Director Naoki Hamaguchi announced during an interview that they are working on a patch to solve the problem. Here is what we know on the subject.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Performance vs. Graphics Mode

While playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you are given the choice to play in Performance mode or Graphics mode. One creates a seamless experience as you play, and the other makes it like watching one long cinematic. Here are a few differences between the two modes.

  • Performance mode encourages smoother gameplay and is less likely to have clunky actions. Unfortunately, it drops the quality of the visuals, causing blurry graphics and low-quality textures.
  • Graphics mode boosts the visuals, creating a more picture-perfect experience. This makes certain areas of Rebirth seem choppy.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Problems When Using Performance Mode

Despite the roaring success of the latest Final Fantasy game, it seems there are some concerns about the graphics. Some players have reported that their visuals suffer when playing in Performance mode, claiming it is inconsistent. Sometimes characters are blurry and some of the textures are blocky.

The low resolution problems have caused issues with lighting, causing certain actions to look clunky, and when it comes to the shadows on the characters' faces, making the heroes look almost scary.

What Did Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Director Say About Performance Mode Issues?

During an interview, Naoki Hamaguchi said Square Enix has been listening to the players' complaints and will take action as soon as possible. He completely agreed that the shadows on the characters' faces can cause them to look scarier than intended.

We’ve received a lot of feedback on whether the graphics in the Performance Mode will be improved or not. We hear you, and we are currently working on an update patch to improve that aspect. I don’t think the release date would be far away from now.

It looks like the team behind Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is listening to our thoughts and will be putting together a patch to solve the issue. When questioned on his preference between the two options, he quickly answered that he always plays on Graphic Mode because he prefers the better visuals. We will have to see how fast they can fix these issues and if any more will appear in the future.
