Flappy Bird Comes Back After 10 Years
Flappy Bird is rising from the dead just in time for Halloween, and there’s some mystery surrounding its resurrection. The reason for Flappy Bird being pulled off the market in the first place was the developer Dong Nguyen himself.
In 2014, Nguyen shocked the gaming community by pulling the trigger on the beloved game and stating a very valid reason for the seemingly random decision, considering the game’s revenue.
I can call Flappy Bird a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it.
-Dong Nguyen
We hear you, Dong. The developer seems to not be involved with the comeback of Flappy Bird, as there is no mention of him in the foundation’s notes to the press. He also hasn’t tweeted in years. So who’s in charge now? The ambitious new developer team is called Flappy Bird Foundation.
Flappy Bird Foundation gained the trademark from Gametech Holdings LLC, who in turn seems to have taken it off Dong Nguyen’s hands. Not just that—the U.S.-based company also acquired the rights to the mobile game that originally inspired Flappy Bird’s character, Piou Piou vs. Cactus. Some big business moves here, Flappy Bird Foundation.
