Fortnite Complete Birthday Quests Guide: How to Get a Free Pickaxe

From today until October 1st, we’re celebrating Battle Royale’s seventh birthday! To mark the occasion, Epic Games has released brand-new Birthday Quests that offer tons of XP and free cosmetic items, including a new emote, back bling, and a shiny pickaxe.

There are six quests available, most of which are straightforward, except for one that seems to be bugged or just requires a bit of luck. We'll cover everything you need to know to complete each Birthday Quest and the rewards you’ll earn along the way.

Every Birthday Quest Reward in Fortnite

Before we dive into the quests, here’s a quick look at the rewards you can earn:

Emote: Birthday Bud (1 Completed quest)

You only need to complete five of the six quests to unlock all the rewards!

How to Wish the Bus Driver a Happy Birthday

For the first quest, you need to wish the Bus Driver a Happy Birthday seven times. Since there’s no dedicated option for this, it might be a bit confusing. All you need to do is use any emote while you’re inside the bus, just like you would to thank the Bus Driver. Repeat this process in seven different games to complete the quest.

How to Throw Birthday Presents or Open Chests

In the second quest, you need to either throw seven Birthday Presents or open seven chests. Since Birthday Presents are quite rare at the moment, it’s much easier to just focus on opening chests. Simply open any seven chests to complete this challenge.

How to Travel Distance While Airborne with Balloons from Birthday Medallion

This is the trickiest quest because it requires a Birthday Present. These new presents can be found in chests or as ground loot. Unfortunately, there are no fixed locations in which you can find them and it's based on your luck. After hours of searching, I’ve only managed to find three.

Once you find a Birthday Present, throw it on the ground. Inside, you’ll find a Birthday Medallion, which will automatically attach balloons to you. By jumping, you can travel the required 777 meters while airborne to complete the quest.

How to Eat Slices of Birthday Cake

For this quest, you need to eat seven slices of birthday cake. There are 10 birthday cakes located in the center of various Named Locations, each surrounded by slices that you can eat to restore health and gain shields. Simply eat seven slices to complete the quest. Check the image below to see the locations of all the birthday cakes.

How to Release or Pop Balloons

This quest asks you to release or pop seven balloons. To release a balloon, use the Birthday Medallion and press ‘Ctrl’ (on PC) to detach a balloon from yourself. To pop balloons, simply shoot or hit the balloons located around each birthday cake with your pickaxe.

How to Reveal Players by Setting off Fireworks with the Flare Gun

For the final quest, you need to reveal seven players using the new Flare Gun. According to Epic Games, the Flare Gun can only be found inside Birthday Presents. Unfortunately, this quest seems to be bugged or we’ve just been extremely unlucky, as the Flare Gun hasn’t shown up in any presents we’ve found so far. Instead, we’ve only received random epic weapons and the Birthday Medallion.

The good news is you don’t need to complete this quest to earn all the rewards, as you can unlock everything by finishing the other challenges.
