Genshin Impact 5.0 DPS Characters Tier List (September 2024)
HoYoverse

With the release of the second phase of Genshin Impact and the introduction of a new main DPS character in the face of Kinich, now is time to look at some of the best DPS characters in the game so that you know who to save up your hard-earned Primos for!

Tier List Explanation

This tier list will go over the DPS characters in Genshin Impact Version 5.0 and divide them into 5 tiers based on strength at C0. The tiers are as follows:

  • S-Tier: The meta characters. Any of these characters is worth investing in and will easily help you clear Abyss 12 even with minimal investment.
  • A-Tier: Slightly weaker DPS characters, but those who can still clear Abyss 12 and other content at medium investment.
  • B-Tier: Mid-range DPS characters who can clear Abyss 12 and other content, albeit with a bit of difficulty. These characters require a medium-high investment.
  • C-Tier: Weak DPS characters who struggle with clearing harder content, such as Abyss 12. These characters require high investment.
  • D-Tier: The weakest DPS characters. These characters are not worth investing in, as they do not provide much benefit even when fully invested in.

NOTE: This tier list is based on our opinions and is nothing more than a suggestion on which characters you might want to use. Feel free to use any character you like, as every character in Genshin Impact can clear all content when heavily invested in.

S-Tier Characters

Arlecchino
Arlecchino

There’s nothing much to say about Arlecchino. She is the strongest Pyro DPS unit in the game and is very easy to build for F2P players, with one of her best weapons being a 3-star Polearm.

PROS:

  • Great damage potential
  • Easy to build
  • Father

CONS:

  • Squishy
Neuvillette
Neuvillette

Neuvillette is one of the easiest characters to pick up, build, and play. He only relies on his Charged Attack to deal damage and can do it amazingly and in a wide range.

PROS:

  • High damage output against single targets and multiple enemies
  • Easy to build scaling off of HP
  • Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale

CONS:

  • Low interruption resistance without C1
  • Hydro dragon don’t cry
Mualani
Mualani

Mualani is one of the newest characters added in 5.0 and is a blast to play due to her mobile Elemental Skill and ridiculously powerful Burst. She can deal millions of damage with just one Ult and is easy to build due to having good F2P weapon alternatives.

PROS:

  • Easy to build
  • High burst damage potential

CONS:

  • Skill can feel janky
Kinich
Kinich

A great Dendro DPS dealer and an amazing open-world explorer. Once you get Kinich, you’ll feel like you’re not playing Genshin anymore. He’s fun to play around with and has a great F2P weapon alternative.

PROS:

  • Great mobility with Elemental Skill
  • Amazing open-world exploration

CONS:

  • Elemental Skill needs some getting used to
  • Mainly focuses on single-target damage

Other S-Tier Characters include:

  • Alhaitham
  • Hu Tao
  • Navia
  • Ayaka
  • Lyney
  • Clorinde

A-Tier Characters

Wanderer
Wanderer

Despite coming out some time ago, the Wanderer still holds his place as one of the better DPS characters in the game. His fast attacks, coupled with his fun flying playstyle make him a great choice for anyone who likes a fast attacker.

PROS:

  • Constant damage against single targets and multiple enemies
  • Great open-world exploration

CONS:

  • Very low interrupt resistance when in flight
Xiao
Xiao

Being one of the first characters to be introduced to Genshin Xiao has certainly come a long way. Even in 5.0, he is still viable as one of the better Anemo DPS carriers thanks to his Plunge Attacks, which only got a buff with the introduction of Cloud Retainer.

PROS:

  • High multipliers on Elemental Burst
  • Great AoE potential

CONS:

  • Reliant on Elemental Burst to deal damage
  • Squishy
Ayato
Ayato

Ayato is a great Hydro DPS unit that was considered the best for the introduction of Neuvillette. His Elemental Skill makes him one of the fastest-hitting characters in the game, and his Elemental Burst has great synergy with Cryo characters.

PROS:

  • Great single-target and multi-enemy damage
  • Great coverage on Elemental burst
  • Versatile team setups

CONS:

  •  Jack of all trades

Other A-Tier characters include:

  • Tartaglia (Childe)
  • Diluc
  • Tighnari
  • Ganyu
  • Yoimiya

B-Tier Characters

Itto
Itto

Geo is currently considered one of the worst elements to play, and its main DPS carries are certainly not benefiting from it. Although Itto can truly shine when used with the right setup, he requires a lot of time to recharge his ultimate and is reliant on mono-geo teams to be viable.

PROS:

  • Great damage potential with Charged Attack DMG

CONS:

  • Hard to build
  • Requires specific teams and units to be viable
Wriothesley
Wriothesley

Despite incorporating unique and fun combat in the form of punching your enemies to death. Wriothesley underperforms as a DPS carry when at C0. His C1 boosts him up quite a bit, but without it, he’s stuck with a long CD on his self-heal, and his strengths cannot shine as much.

PROS:

  • Great single-target DPS. Amazing in Melt teams
  • Constant Cryo application

CONS:

  • Short range
  • Limited team versatility without C1
Cyno
Cyno

When Cyno was first announced, he looked like the perfect character for those who liked fast playstyles. However, after his release, it became apparent that he has several issues that are mostly tied to his high-cost Elemental Burst and low damage without a great Dendro applicator such as Nahida.

PROS:

  • Great in Hyperbloom and Aggravate teams
  • Great single-target DPS potential

CONS:

  • High Elemental Burst cost
  • Very low interruption resistance
  • Dependent on Elemental Burst

Other B-Tier characters include:

  • Keqing
  • Eula
  • Gaming
  • Klee

C-Tier Characters

Sethos
Sethos

Sethos is a fun character to play thanks to his Piercing mechanic and fast playstyle. He can be considered an inferior Clorinde. Although fun to play, his being a 4-star unit limits his damage potential, drastically impacting his rating.

PROS:

  • Great in Dendro teams
  • Fast playstyle
  • Piercing DMG

CONS:

  • Energy-hungry
  • Requires a ton of investment
Heizou
Heizou

Heizou was a shock to the community when he first came out, mostly due to his unique playstyle, which incorporated punching and kicking. Sadly, that was quickly forgotten as he shares the fate of being a 4-star character and thus being easily powercrept.

PROS:

  • Quick playstyle and good open-world exploration
  • Good ATK stat

CONS:

  • Hard to use Elemental Burst
  • Needs a decently built team to function well

Other C-Tier characters include:

  • Noelle
  • Yanfei
  • Kaeya
  • Lisa

D-Tier Characters

Kaveh
Kaveh

There’s nothing much to say about Kaveh apart from the fact that he’s a good character to use in Bloom-related teams. That’s unfortunately it. He lacks in anything apart from being a main DPS, and his being a 4-star sadly doesn’t help with that.

PROS:

  • Great in Bloom Teams
  • Self-healing thanks to Bloom core explosion

CONS:

  • High Energy requirements
  • Reliant on Ultimate for infusion
Freminet
Freminet

Freminet has been a bit of an oddball ever since he was first released. His ability to deal both Physical and Cryo DMG seems like an interesting concept, but it honestly falls short because he just sucks at both, leaving him in a really awkward state.

PROS:

  • Can deal both Physical and Cryo DMG

CONS:

  • Low scaling
  • Low interrupt resistance

Other D-Tier characters include:

  • Razor
  • Ningguang
  • Dehya
  • Xinyan
  • Aloy
