Farming bosses for materials to ascend your characters has always been one of the most common ways to spend your Resin in Genshin Impact. Although not as popular as artifact farming, bosses are required to level your characters, and thus many people fight them.

Unfortunately, until now, whenever you killed a boss, you’d have to wait 3 minutes until you could fight it again. Luckily, the developers have finally heard the players’ voices and are changing this in the upcoming 4.8 update.

As of writing, the respawn time for bosses is set at 3 minutes or 180 seconds. After the version 4.8 update, this time will be drastically reduced to 10 seconds!

Boss Respawn Time: 180 seconds > 10 seconds

NOTE: This change does not apply to Lupus Boreas, Dominator of Wolves.

This is a huge change that will save a lot of players a ton of time farming. Currently, to ascend a 5-star character to the max, you need 46 boss materials.

Given that the average drop rate for boss materials at higher World Levels is 2 to 3, this means that in the worst-case scenario, you will have to kill a specific boss 23 times. Multiply this by 3 minutes, and you’re looking at 69 minutes of downtime, not including the fighting itself.

After the change, this downtime will drop to 230 seconds, less than 4 minutes.

This will make farming for new characters way faster, and those who have a lot of resin to spend won’t have to wait and wonder what to do during the downtime.

How Does This Change Impact Players?

This change impacts everyone, even casual players who fight bosses only 4-5 times a day to spend their resin.

This is because even fighting a boss five times a day still gives you 15 minutes of downtime. After the change, this downtime quickly drops to less than a minute, making it so that you’ll spend most of your time fighting the boss rather than just waiting.

Having to spend less time waiting is always welcome, which is also why lots of players love how Honkai: Star Rail conducts its farming by allowing you to fight bosses instantly with no downtime.

We are glad to see that the developers behind Genshin Impact have finally started pushing out a lot of great quality-of-life changes in the recent patches, and we’re looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us in the future.
