Who is Xiao
Xiao is a 5-star Anemo character that was first released way back in February 2021. For some years, he had seemingly been forgotten without having a good artifact set for him, as well as no teammates to boost his damage potential.
However, with the recent updates Xiao now has some amazing artifact sets to go with him, alongside some teammates that greatly boost his damage.
Let’s see how to build him!

Xiao Skills
Xiao’s kit mostly revolves around gathering enough energy to unleash his Ultimate which gives him the ability to Plunge Attack, dealing a ton of damage in a wide area when he lands.
He is one of the few characters that utilizes plunging attacks and that makes him a unique character to have on your roster.
Here is the full breakdown of Xiao’s skills and passives:
Xiao Skills

- Normal Attack
- Performs up to 6 consecutive spear strikes.
- Charged Attack
- Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to perform an upward thrust.
- Plunging Attack
- Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.
- Xiao does not take DMG from performing Plunging Attacks.

- Xiao lunges forward, dealing Anemo DMG to opponents in his path.
- Can be used in mid-air.

- Converts attack DMG into Anemo DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion.
- In this state, Xiao will continuously lose HP.
- The effects of this skill end when Xiao leaves the field.

Xiao Best Teams
Similar to his artifact sets, for quite some time Xiao didn’t have good dedicated teammates, however, with recent updates new characters have been released that are able to bring Xiao’s potential to a whole new level.
However, it is worth noting that, Xiao’s best team is not easy to get for F2P players due to the character and constellation requirements.
With that out of the way, here are the best teams for Xiao:
Best Team
- Xiao
- Cloud Retainer
- Faruzan (C6)
- Furina
All the characters here synthesize great Xiao allowing him to reach his full potential. However, this team is quite premium, needing 3 limited 5-star units and one 4-star unit at C6. This makes the team hard to obtain, but if you do, it is the best team for Xiao by far.
Anemo - Geo Team
- Xiao
- Jean
- Albedo
- Zhongli
This is one of Xiao's earlier teams which although doesn't allow him to reach his full potential is able to use a lot of his strengths.
Free to Play (F2P) Team
- Xiao
- Faruzan
- Sucrose
- Bennett
Apart from Xiao all of the characters in this team are 4-stars and can be obtained through one means or another. Although this team is somewhat lacking in comparison to the other two, it is a great alternative if you are building Xiao on a budget.

Summary
Xiao is an interesting character and one of the older characters in Genshin Impact. Throughout the years he has been somewhat lackluster due to his lack of a designated artifact set and good teammates.
With the recent updates in the game, Xiao now has a good artifact set that he can use, and great Anemo supports to buff his damage.
Unfortunately, his best team is quite premium, requiring you to spend a lot in order to get all of the characters, with three of them being premium and one needing C6.
Despite this, Xiao is a great addition for players who love slightly unique play styles and are a fan of faster characters that do a ton of damage.
