God of War Ragnarok: Best Runic Attacks and Locations
Runics in God of War: Ragnarok are special gems that can be equipped in the weapons of Kratos and Atreus, enhancing their attacks with additional damage. Runic Attacks come in both light and heavy variations, and each can be upgraded up to three levels. Here are the best runic attacks for each weapon, as well as how to find them.
Best Leviathan Axe Runic Attacks
Wrath of the Frost Ancient
- Light Runic Attack
Shoots out an ice beam that deals heavy damage at a good range; no stun but max out frost and damage stats at level 3, and it can become your favorite light runic attack for your ax.
How to find it:
- Go to the ruined marketplace in the middle of The Southern Wilds region
- After you fight the poisonous Legions, go to the corner that gets you to the next area
- Check the left-hand wall for some tree roots
- To the left of them is a spot you can slip under
- Turn right, and you’ll find the Legendary Chest
Fog of Fimbulwinter
- Heavy Runic Attack
Creates a wave of frost that knocks back enemies and is great for crowd control; similarly to Wrath of the Frost Ancient, when leveled up to 3, you max out frost, get medium damage, and no stun stats.
How to find it:
- Go to the Myrkr Tunnels in Svartalfheim
- Sindri tries to talk to Kratos, and you have to push a cart out of the way
- Instead of opening the gate with the chain, stand at the chain, face away from the gate towards an intersection, then go right
- There will be some Red Fungi Bramble: burn it down with a Hex and Blazing Surge combo
- Head forward to the Legendary Chest

Best Blades of Chaos Runic Attacks
Rampage of the Furies
- Light Runic Attack
This is the most powerful Light Runic attack the Blades of Chaos can get, maxing out the damage stat when fully leveled, and applying a good amount of burn to any enemies nearby.
How to find it:
- Go to the Vanir Shrine in Vanaheim
- Go to the Northern side area, the one guarded by spitting plants and a drawbridge you have to bring down
- Head across the bridge, right and up the slope, and then check the right-hand side of the area at the top to find the Legendary Chest behind a gate
- To open it, head through the nearby doorway and go right up the slope
- At the top, look right for some Hel’s Bramble that you can burn down with a Blazing Surge from the Blades of Chaos
- A crack in the wall will now be revealed, with a target visible on the other side
- Cut it with the Leviathan Axe, the gate will open up and you can get to the Legendary Chest
Meteoric Slam
- Heavy Runic Attack
Create a torrent of fire in the area you slam; when maxed out, it will deal heavy damage, solid burn, and stun to any enemies in the incinerated area; significant cool-down time.
How to find it:
- Earned by killing 38 of Odin's Ravens
- Head to the Raven Tree in Niflheim
- Open the middle-right chest

Best Draupnir Spear Runic Attacks
Huldra Charge
- Light Runic Attack
A lunging attack that sucks out an enemy’s element; as you level it up, you'll channel gusts of wind that damage the enemies, and at level 3, casts a protective shell around Kratos; with a decent amount of damage and stun, and some burn stats.
How to find it:
- Defeat the Ogres during the Path Quest, Forging Destiny
- You will receive Huldra Charge as a drop from the fight
The Finger of Ruin
- Heavy Runic Attack
Creates an uncontrollable tornado that sucks up and damages all enemies caught in its range. Upgrading it makes it bigger and lasts longer, as well as deal more damage, force, and stun to enemies; however, its cool-down period is so long you might only use this powerful runic attack once in battle.
How to find it:
- Defeat 48 of Odin's Ravens
- Head to the Raven Tree in Niflheim
- Unlock the bottom-right Legendary Chest
