It's difficult to believe that Grand Theft Auto 5 was released over 10 years ago, and that, even after all this time, GTA Online is not only still active, but is in fact flourishing in the wake of the Chop Shop DLC. Here are the player numbers, and they are mighty impressive!
GTA 5 Online Player Count Stats December 2023:
As we can see in this picture, since the release of the Chop Shop DLC, Grand Theft Auto 5 has seen a 33% increase in it's player count, going from an average of 88,000 players all the way up to 117,000.

The numbers don't lie. After the Chop Shop DLC update, GTA Online is currently sailing atop the biggest wave of concurrent players on Steam in over 7 years. Rockstar's support for the game has been immense, and the Chop Shop DLC has attracted old and new players alike to the familiar setting of San Andreas.
Is GTA Online Dead?
Most certainly not. On December 16, GTA 5 hit its highest concurrent player numbers on Steam since launch. Some of this may be credited to the trailer reveal for the much-awaited GTA 6, which surely built hype for the franchise and saw a fresh wave of players pick up GTA 5 to scratch their GTA itch. But that said, GTA 5 Online was doing just fine even before the GTA 6 trailer and the Chop Shop DLC.

Rockstar show no signs of letting GTA Online go by the wayside, with a recent collaboration with Dam-Funk supplementing a new media stick event in the game just yesterday. When GTA 6 eventually launches, support for GTA Online may change, but for the time being there has never been a better time to return to San Andreas, Los Santos.
