The long-awaited expansion of Hearthstone - Whizbang's Workshop was released a few days ago on March 19, 2024, and delivered 145 new cards to the players. We met a lot of new faces but some cards are revisited versions of some well-known cards from previous years. In this article, we will look into the thirty five new Neutral cards and explain their flavor texts.
As you may know, every card in Hearthstone has its own "flavor" text which is a specific pun, reference, or joke related to the art or the name of the card. Some "serious" cards have a deeper flavor text that might reveal more about the lore or set the tone of the character. You can see this flavor text when you click on a card in your "My Collection" tab in the game.
Make sure to check out our explanation articles for each card class in Whizbang's Workshop! Now let's begin!

Giftwrapped Whelp
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Dragon
- Flavor text: Don't forget to poke fire-breathing holes in the box!
- Flavor text explanation: This one is pretty simple but usually when a pet is put in a box there are holes for it to breathe from. Since this small dragon is breathing out fire, the holes should be readjusted.
Scarab Keychain
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Beast
- Flavor text: "How do you keep losing your keys!? They couldn't have just gotten up and walked away!"
- Flavor text explanation: Turns out they did. The scarab is literally a keychain so wherever he goes, the keys go with him.
Tar Slime
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Elemental
- Flavor text: Too cute to be contained!
- Flavor text explanation: Tar Slime is the smaller version of Tar Creeper and unlike him, is super cute. Although slimes are usually contained in plastic jars, the Tar Slime's cuteness cannot be trapped.

Treasure Distributor
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Gnome
- Flavor text: As the illiterate pirates always say: There is no 'I' in 'piracy'.
- Flavor text explanation: The flavor text ironizes the famous quote by keeping in mind the literal spelling of the word "piracy".
Sing-Along Buddy
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Mechanical
- Flavor text: One of the buttons make you sound JUST like Ragnaros. BY FIRE BE HEARD!
- Flavor text explanation: Ragnaros is a famous boss in World of Warcraft that says "By Fire Be Purged". In this card, we see a karaoke machine that supposedly would make you sound like Ragnaros but with different lyrics.
Bucket of Soldiers
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Animated Object
- Flavor text: Life is like a bucket of soldiers. You never know what bonus effects you're gonna get.
- Flavor text explanation: This flavor text refers to the famous Forest Gump quote "Life is a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get". Here the chocolates are the soldiers inside the box.

Card Grader
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Naga
- Flavor text: "Uncentered gem, fractured frame, folded corner... 10/10!"
- Flavor text explanation: This Card grader certainly has very unique rating criteria. Despite listing what seems to be defects of the card, in the end she gives it a perfect score.
Clearance Promoter
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Night Elf, Demon
- Flavor text: "Sorry, we just sold our last Worgen Greaser figure."
- Flavor text explanation: Worgen Greaser is a card with a Worgen rocker. The flavor text simply describes a situation where a fan was looking for a Worgen Greaser figure that is already sold out.
Cosplay Contestant
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Night Elf, Demon
- Flavor text: "She's the winner of the Valeera Cosplay Contest! Second place was Valeera.
- Flavor text explanation: This is Valeera's Rogue Skin. This cosplayer is so good that look more like Valeera than Valeera herself! Similar to how Charlie Chaplin lost a lookalike contest of himself to someone else.

Messmaker
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Plant
- Flavor text: The most painful 1 damage of your life.
- Flavor text explanation: Here we can see Messmaker throwing Lego-like toys around. There is a running joke that stepping on a Lego causes excruciating pain, even though it barely harms you – hence the flavor text joke!
Nostalgic Initiate
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Human
- Flavor text: Nostalgic Initiate: "Man I wish I could relive my college days..."
Kel'thuzad: "Say no more." - Flavor text explanation: Because Kel’thuzad is a necromancer, he has the power to bring inanimate objects to life. Here, we can see him using his power to animate the doll from his college days with his magic.
Plucky Paintfin
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Murloc
- Flavor text: Not everyone can become a great painter. But a great painter can come from anywhere.
- Flavor text explanation: If it is anyone then even Murlocs can become painters.

Rumble Enthusiast
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Human, Gnoll, Gnome, Night Elf, Orc
- Flavor text: There's always room for one more game in the tavern!
- Flavor text explanation: Hearthstone is a game played in the taverns in the World of Warcraft universe. However, the same goes for the game Warcraft Rumble. The flavor text simply welcomes both games in the tavern.
Sweetened Snowflurry
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Elemental
- Flavor text: "You want a piece of me!? Will that be one scoop or two?"
- Flavor text explanation: The character is an ice cream. Although "You want a piece of me?" is typically used as a threat here he wants if you want a piece of him. Yummy.

Forgotten Animatronic
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Mechanical, Gnoll
- Flavor text: He ALWAYS comes back.
- Flavor text explanation: This seems to be a reference to the popular horror indie game Five Nights at Freddy's.
Origami Frog
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Animated Object, Beast
- Flavor text: For extra-realistic fly-snatching action, use tape!
- Flavor text explanation: As you know, origami is the art where you use paper to make realistic replicas of animals, flowers, and various objects. The flavor text underlines just how realistic the origami frog is.
Workshop Janitor
- Rarity: Common
- Race: Goblin
- Flavor text: She works in a magical toy shop and they just gave her a regular mop? Make it make sense.
- Flavor text explanation: If the toys in the show are magical, imagine the mess the janitor has to clean up. How are you supposed to clean magic with a regular mop?

Floppy Hydra
- Rarity: Rare
- Race: Beast
- Flavor text: If you cut one of its heads off, it'll grow back twice as cute!
- Flavor text explanation: In the tales cutting the head of a dragon might result in him growing an additional one. This little guy is so adorable that it wouldn't be a surprise that it is not his head but his cuteness that would double.
Observer of Mysteries
- Rarity: Rare
- Race: Observer
- Flavor text: Nobody tell him, but he still has his Secrets set to the "Try Me" mode.
- Flavor text explanation: It seems like even the magic crystal orb has a trial period and some secrets are not fully revealed to the Observer.
Nostalgic Gnome
- Rarity: Rare
- Race: Gnome

Origami Crane
- Rarity: Rare
- Race: Animated Object, Bird
- Flavor text: I was born with 1-Health and paper skin.
- Flavor text explanation: The flavor text is a reference to the Spongebob meme "I was born with glass bones and paper skin". The origami is equally vulnerable as its Health is only 1.

Wind-Up Musician
- Rarity: Rare
- Race: Animated Object, Hozen

Corridor Sleeper
- Rarity: Epic
- Race: Beast
- Flavor text: In the workshop, I go deeper.
In the mulligan, I'm a keeper.
This time, I'm even cheaper.
You guessed it right, I'm Corridor Sleeper. - Flavor text explanation: There was a Corridor Creeper card before that cost 7 Mana. This one, however, costs only 1 which is why it's "cheaper". Mulligan is your starting hand so in other words it would be best for you to use the Corridor Sleeper in your first move.
Nostalgic Clown
- Rarity: Epic
- Race: Orc, Goblin, Pandaren
- Flavor text: He used to be kind of corrupt, but now he performs purely for the fun of it.
- Flavor text explanation: This is a reference from a previous card called "Corupt Clown" which had a "corrupt" effect.

Origami Dragon
- Rarity: Epic
- Race: Animated Object, Dragon
- Flavor text: The fire will give you a papercut, which CAN burn. Does that count?
- Flavor text explanation: The dragon is made from paper which means that he cannot really blow fire. The only way to hurt you or "burn" you is if he cuts you. Apparently?
Factory Assemblybot
- Rarity: Epic
- Race: Mechanical
- Flavor text: I call it Mini-me.
- Flavor text explanation: This is a direct reference to the Austin Powers franchise "Mini Me".
Playhouse Giant
- Rarity: Epic
- Race: Mechanical, Gnome
- Flavor text: WARNING: NOT A PLAYHOUSE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLIMB.
- Flavor text explanation: Even though that's what his name suggests, this giant is certainly not a playhouse and looks far from stable enough to be climbed on.
Zilliax Deluxe 3000
- Rarity: Legendary
- Race: Mechanical
- Flavor text: It only took us 2998 prototypes to figure out how to make the perfect card... by having YOU do it!
- Flavor text explanation: The first Zilliax we saw a few expansions back was an amazing card that was widely used. Since then, Blizzard has stated that they made 2998 attempts to improve it, but the only successful one was for the players to craft it themselves, so they can't complain!

We first encountered Whizbang back in the Boomsday Project expansion. He used the knowledge from the best inventor of dangerous weapons and applied it to toys. That can't be good!"
Li'Na, Shop Manager
- Rarity: Legendary
- Race: Pandaren
- Flavor text: Somebody has to do the paperwork around here.

Colifero the Artist
- Rarity: Legendary
- Race: Elemental
- Flavor text: You are what you paint! And Colifero is paint.

Joymancer Jepetto
- Rarity: Legendary
- Race: Gnome, Animated Object, Mechanical
- Flavor text: Joymancy (noun): The practice of bringing joy to others through the use of magic. (see also: ethics)
- Flavor text explanation: Here we can see Blizzard making a joke about the fact that 'joymancy' doesn’t exist as a word, so they create a fake dictionary definition. Additionally, they refer us to the definition of ethics, as making people happy through magic might infringe upon their free will!
