Helldivers 2 has a plethora of guns and stratagems for players to try out. Arrowhead have strived to create a weapon for every scenario. Even though Helldivers 2 continues to impress fans, they do not hesitate to ask to see whatever new features they think would work.
Arrowhead may have outright refused fans' requests for transmog but they have been open to ideas from their players. Some time ago, the developers mentioned that melee weapons could be coming to Helldivers 2. This met instant approval from fans and we have been waiting patiently for any news as to when we will be cutting through bugs and bots alike.

Are Melee Weapons Coming to Helldivers 2?
Recently, members of the Helldivers 2 Discord channel asked what happened to Arrowhead's plans for melee weapons. Their community manager was kind enough to respond.
What happened? Well, it's been a month, not a year. It might still happen. As you know, we've been fairly busy the past month.

The team behind Helldivers 2 has indeed been busy since they released the game and nobody can say that they haven't been doing an amazing job. We have had consistent updates, patches, and extra content. Nobody could have expected the roaring success of the PVE shooter and it is still maintaining its momentum.

Considering Helldivers 2 does maintain as much realism as it can in the sci-fi setting, we will have to limit our expectations when they mention melee weapons. There is little chance we will spin around with lightsabers, cutting apart Automatons like a Jedi. Nor is it plausible to solo a Factory Strider with a chainsaw but it is possible we will be able to cut through some bugs instead of blowing them up.
Players can already hit their enemies with a melee attack but they are crying out for a chance to go medieval on the enemies of democracy. Hacking at bugs or bots with a broadsword sounds fun but we might have to wait a while longer before we get the chance. In the meantime, we will pass the time by cutting through the enemy with bullets and explosions instead.
