With only a few days since the release of Helldivers 2, many players have already slain hundreds of Terminids and Automatons, doing their part in the liberation of the galaxy. The game is the latest co-op multiplayer game to reach the mainstream, with over 1 million copies sold in less than a week. With so many different objectives scattered across the different regions of the planet, it's very important for players to work together to achieve success in pushing back the galactic invasion.
This is where communication comes into play, and even if you are not fond of using your microphone during the match, it's important to know how to ping places of interest both on the ground and on the map. Here is our guide on how to use the Ping system in Helldivers 2!

Pinging in co-op shooters has been a staple for decades at this point, and it's one of the most important ways to communicate with your teammates. Helldivers 2 has an amazing Ping system, but it does not really show you how to use it during the tutorial section of the game. There are two ways in which you can Ping in Helldivers 2, one being your regular 'target and press' and the other one being on the map. You can change the key binding for pinging in the options menu, but for now here is what the default is set to:
- Default PC Ping Button: Q
- Default PS5 Ping Button: R1

The second way of communicating with your team without using VoIP is by pinging on the map. This is extremely useful as there are a ton of side objectives that can be found in any of the matches. Pinging the map is also not very intuitive in terms of button pressing, so here is how you can do it on both PC and PlayStation 5:
- PC: Open the map by pressing 'Tab' and right-click with your mouse. This will allow you to move your mouse around the map. From here, you can left-click and ping your desired spot on the map.
- PS5: Open the map by pressing your touchpad. This will allow you to move your stick through the map. From here, you can press X and ping your desired location on the map.
That is everything you need to know about communication with your team using the Ping system in Helldivers 2. While the game has an amazing system that allows players to effectively communicate without using a microphone, it doesn't really promote its use in any way. Hopefully, this guide has helped you find and adjust your settings so you can easily navigate the game with nothing but pings.
