Honkai Star Rail 2.0: Best Tanks Ranked (March 2024)

Tanks are a crucial part of any team in Honkai: Star Rail. They are not only able to mitigate damage for the team by giving shields or taking most of the enemies’ attacks, but some are also able to buff your team making them a good partner to have.

This guide will look at all 4 currently dedicated Tank, or Preservation, units in Honkai: Star Rail 2.0 and rank them from best to worst.

Best Tank Characters

As already mentioned there are a total of 4 Preservation units that work as dedicated tank characters in Honkai: Star Rail. Those four are March 7, Trailblazer (Fire), Gepard, Fu Xuan.

To start our list we have our weakest Preservation units which are:

• March 7
• Trailblazer (Fire)

Both of these units have been present ever since the launch of Honkai: Star Rail and for players who are remaining F2P or are saving their wishes, these two characters will be the ones to carry you through the game. 

However, they are quite weaker than their 5-star counterparts, and although their kits are meant to help the team they fall slightly short needing quite a bit of investment to be viable.

Next up is, Gepard.

Gepard

Gepard is the first 5-star Preservation unit in the game and was one of the highly sought-after units when the game was first released. Gepard can give each teammate a huge shield which is a lifesaver in a ton of situations and even today he is a great unit to have on your team to keep them alive.

The best Preservation unit in the game is without a doubt the limited 5-star Preservation character Fu Xuan.

Fu Xuan

Fu Xuan is not only the best Preservation unit in the game but is also one of the best characters to go for when you consider survivability and buffs.

She can mitigate damage for the whole team by spreading it to the attacked enemy and herself and also provides a team-wide Crit Rate buff which is great for almost any team.

Fu Xuan is one of the most valuable characters in Honkai: Star Rail and you should get her if you have the chance.

Summary

Although the tank/preservation roster in Honkai: Star Rail is quite small as of Version 2.0, we can expect to see more Preservation units making their way into the game with time. 

The current 4 characters that we have are more than enough to sustain any team, and although the 4-star Preservation units are good and can work with investment, if you can get any of the 5-star Preservation units you will surely be able to sustain your whole team even with just one of them.

Preservation units might have gone out of most meta teams due to the game starting to focus on needing a lot of numbers, thus the need for more and better DPS characters, however, we believe that Preservation units still have a place in a lot of team and you won’t go wrong by building them.
