With the arrival of Bethesda's Starfield, players have been eagerly exploring the vast universe it offers. But how much time should you expect to invest in this RPG? Let's dive into the details.

After much anticipation, players can now embark on the epic space adventure that Starfield promises. The game allows you to explore planets, journey through distant solar systems, and personalize your spacecraft in this expansive RPG.

Starfield boasts an abundance of content that will keep players engaged, but you might be curious about the actual time commitment required, whether you're focusing solely on the main campaign or aiming for a comprehensive completionist run.

With that in mind, let's break down how much time you can anticipate spending in Starfield.

Duration of Starfield's Main Campaign

Completing the main campaign of Starfield is estimated to take around 30 to 40 hours during an average playthrough. This estimate was provided by producer Todd Howard during the 2022 Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase.

Comparing this to some of Bethesda's previous titles, HowLongToBeat indicates that Skyrim – Special Edition's Main Story takes approximately 26 hours to finish, while Fallout 4's Main Story clocks in at around 27 hours.

Not only does Starfield's main campaign offer more content than Bethesda's earlier releases, but it is likely to take significantly longer than Howard's estimate for completionists who aim to explore every facet of the game.

Duration of a Completionist Run in Starfield

Although there isn't a precise figure for how long a completionist run of Starfield will take, players can anticipate investing hundreds of hours.

In the case of Skyrim, a completionist run can easily surpass 200 hours, while doing the same in Fallout 4 can take over 150 hours. Assuming that Bethesda's latest game follows a similar pattern, fully exploring all of Starfield's content will demand hundreds of hours.

This perspective was reinforced by Bethesda's Pete Hines during Gamescom 2023. He stated, "I’m at 150-160 hours on my current playthrough and I haven’t even come close… There’s so much stuff I have intentionally not done. No matter how you want to play, there is so much for you to do in this game."
