How to Craft a Minecraft Beacon

How to Use a Beacon

Once you have crafted the Beacon itself, you will need to build a pyramid made out of certain blocks to power it.

You can make the base out of the following block types.

Iron Ingots
Gold Ingots
Diamonds
Emeralds
Netherite Ingots

The strength and range of the power is determined by the size of the pyramid itself. To get the most out of the Beacon, you will need to build 4 layers by looking at these proportions:

Of course, you can go for a smaller pyramid if you do not have enough materials to power it, however, you will not have access to all of the effects and the range will be limited as well.

Beacon Powers

Beacons that have three layers or less will only come with primary status effects, meaning they only introduce one specific power while you are in range. If a fourth layer is built, you'll get to also pick a secondary status effect, making the Beacon even more powerful.

To start using the Beacon, you must give it either a Netherite Ingot, an Emerald, Diamond, Gold Ingot, or an Iron ingot.

Despite it being very difficult to build a Beacon and use it, the effects are well worth the effort.

Beacon Variants and Customization

You can also make the pyramid bigger to allow up to 6 Beacons to be active at a time and even add dyed glass blocks on top of the Beacon block that also change the color of the light beam.

It is important to note that the range and power of the Beacon depend on the size of the pyramid underneath.
