Patch 13.17 promises to be a patch of contrasts, with one side showcasing the Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin Gacha controversy, while on the other, welcoming back the Essence Emporium.

Let's delve into the Gacha controversy first. Riot, in their recent PBE update, unveiled the Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin skin. Essentially, this is a mythic chroma variant of the original Dark Cosmic Jhin skin. However, unlike typical mythic chromas priced at 40 ME (Mythic Essence), this skin comes at an exorbitant cost of $200.

To acquire this skin, players need to open 30 Cosmic Erasure 2023 Capsules. Considering each capsule's price of 750 RP, a total of 22,500 RP would be required to obtain the chroma. This essentially transforms the skin into a high-priced $200 chroma. Riot's decision to introduce such an overt cash-grab skin faced widespread criticism, resulting in significant backlash from the community.

Moving past the controversies, let's explore the positive aspects coming with this patch. The highly anticipated Essence Emporium is making a return. Alongside this, players can look forward to Icons designed for each and every champion in the game.

Obtaining the New Champion Icons

Each champion will have their own dedicated Icon, available for direct purchase from the in-game store. Similar to other Icons in the game, the cost will be 250 RP. While many hoped for the option to buy the Icons using Blue Essence, unfortunately, this won't be possible. However, Riot has assured players that the Icons will be available for re-rolling.

The eagerly awaited New Champion Icons are set to make their debut on live servers alongside Patch 13.17. Players can expect the patch to roll out on Thursday, August 31st, 2023.
