How to Remove Traits in Starfield

If you regret your Trait choices, don't worry; there are methods to remove them.

Bethesda

In Starfield, you have the option to select up to three Traits when creating your character. These Traits can have both positive and negative effects, and their consequences may become more apparent as your adventure unfolds. If you regret your Trait choices, don't worry; there are methods to remove them. However, keep in mind that this decision is irreversible, except by loading an earlier save. Here's how to remove each Trait:

Removing the Alien DNA Trait

The Alien DNA Trait increases your maximum health and oxygen but reduces the effectiveness of healing items. If you find this drawback challenging, you can visit a doctor, preferably one at Reliant Medical in a major city. Pay a fee of 10,000 credits to reverse the experimental procedure.

Removing the Dream Home Trait

The Dream Home Trait grants you a customizable home on a distant planet, but it requires a weekly payment of credits to access unless you pay off the 125,000-credit mortgage in full. If you no longer wish to make payments or access the house, return to Galbank and request the bank to foreclose and repossess the property.

Removing the Empath Trait

The Empath Trait enhances combat effectiveness when your companion approves of your actions but decreases it when they disapprove. If you find this trait's fluctuating nature difficult to manage or are going against your companion's wishes, visit a medical facility, such as Reliant Medical in most cities, to undergo an operation and remove the Empath ability.

Removing the Extrovert Trait

The Extrovert Trait reduces oxygen consumption when adventuring with human companions but increases it when traveling alone. If you prefer to adventure solo without this drawback, consult the head of the Church of Enlightened, located in The Well of New Atlantis on Jemison. Through conversation with them, you can learn how to shed your Extrovert nature.

Removing the Hero Worshipped Trait

The Hero Worshipped Trait allows you to recruit an Adoring Fan as a companion. However, this fan can be annoying and follow you incessantly. If you wish to get rid of the Adoring Fan permanently, interact with him and choose to discuss his "fandom." You have several options:

  • Select the "(Attack)" option to engage him in combat, making him non-essential and removing him from your party.
  • Choose other options to convince him that he can still be a fan but is no longer allowed to follow you or stay on your ship. This also makes him non-essential if you decide to eliminate him.
  • Opt for the persuade option to convince him that he should no longer be your fan. You can quickly succeed in persuasion by telling him you're a murderer. After this, he will leave immediately and want nothing to do with you. This also makes him non-essential if you decide to kill him.

Be aware that dismissing him will cause him to leave with any items you've given him, and you'll need to defeat him to recover them.

Removing the Introvert Trait

The Introvert Trait reduces oxygen consumption when adventuring alone but increases it when accompanied by a human companion. If you wish to fight alongside a companion without the associated debuff, seek guidance from the head of the Church of Enlightened in The Well of New Atlantis on Jemison. They can assist you in overcoming your Introvert nature.

Removing the Kid Stuff Trait

The Kid Stuff Trait allows you to meet your parents, who reside in New Atlantis on the planet Jemison. You can visit their apartment, receive gifts, and interact with them. However, you must provide them with 5% of your funds weekly. If you decide that the financial burden is too much, speak with your parents and inform them that you can no longer support them. This will effectively prevent you from seeing them and eliminate the need for payments.

Removing the Neon Street Rat Trait

The Neon Street Rat Trait offers additional dialogue options and better quest rewards in the city of Neon on Volii. However, it significantly increases bounties from other factions. To remove this trait, visit Madam Sauvage's bar in the outer "Ebbside" area of Neon. Engage in dialogue, and you'll have the opportunity to "leave your past behind you," thereby eliminating the trait.

Removing the Raised Enlightened Trait

The Raised Enlightened Trait identifies you as a member of the House of the Enlightened, which focuses on helping people rather than a higher power. You'll gain access to a special chest in the House of the Enlightened's lower meeting room in the New Atlantis Well. If you decide to renounce your beliefs, speak to Andy Singh in the House and express your desire to leave the Enlightened behind.

Removing the Raised Universal Trait

The Raised Universal Trait signifies your affiliation with the Sanctum Universum religion, which believes in a higher power residing among the stars. This grants access to a special chest in the Sanctum in New Atlantis. If you no longer wish to adhere to this religion, talk to Keeper Aquilis in the Sanctum and express your desire to leave the faith behind.

Removing the Serpent’s Embrace Trait

To remove the Serpent's Embrace Trait, visit New Atlantis' Spaceport. Enter the UC Security Office at the top right side of the scanner ramp. Inside, you'll find Mir'za, a follower of the Great Serpent. Engage in conversation and select the option "I am having a crisis of faith, There's not many people I can talk to about it." Follow this dialogue path to receive the option to remove the trait.

Removing the Spaced Trait

The Spaced Trait provides increased health and oxygen in space or starstations but reduces abilities on planetary surfaces. To eliminate this trait, visit any doctors at a Reliant Medical facility in major cities. Inquire about undergoing a procedure to remove the trait, which will cost you 10,000 credits but permanently eliminate the Spaced Trait.

Removing the Taskmaster Trait

The Taskmaster Trait grants your crew a chance to automatically repair systems they are trained in if they fall below 50% health. However, crew costs are twice as high as standard rates. If you struggle with the high hiring costs, consult the House of the Enlightened in the Well of New Atlantis on planet Jemison. Speak with Andy Singh, who can provide counseling to remove the trait.

Removing the Terra Firma Trait

The Terra Firma Trait boosts your health and oxygen when on planetary surfaces but reduces abilities in space. To remove this trait, visit any doctors at a Reliant Medical facility in major cities. Inquire about undergoing a procedure to eliminate the trait, which will cost you 10,000 credits but permanently remove the Terra Firma Trait.

Removing the United Colonies Native Trait

The United Colonies Native Trait offers additional dialogue options and better quest rewards in UC territories like New Atlantis. However, it significantly increases bounties from other factions. To remove this trait, visit HR by taking the elevator in MAST up to Colonial Health and Human Resources. Speak to Administrator Rookes in his office and express your desire to no longer associate with the UC, considering yourself a citizen of the Settled Systems instead.

Removing the Wanted Trait

The Wanted Trait places a bounty on your head, attracting squads of Bounty Hunters in both ground and space encounters. However, you gain a damage increase when at low health. To remove this trait, approach any Tracker Alliance Agent in a main city and request their assistance in paying off the bounty in exchange for 3,000 credits.

  • The Agent in New Atlantis can be found in The Well, right outside the Church of the Enlightened by the elevator to the Spaceport.
  • The Agent in Cydonia is located on the left as you enter, under the sign tally for recent accidents on site.
