If you've ever found yourself staring at your collection of weapons in Starfield, struggling to differentiate between them, here's some fantastic news: you can rename your weapons within the game. This simple trick can make managing your arsenal a breeze.

How to Rename Your Weapons in Starfield

Starfield has a peculiar naming system for its weapons, often derived from the mods and perks associated with them. This can result in rather convoluted names like "One Inch Punch Calibrated Razorback." However, the good news is that you can easily change these names to something more personal and memorable.

Here's a step-by-step guide on renaming your weapons in Starfield:

  1. Have the weapon in your own inventory.
  2. Visit a Weapon Workbench.
  3. Press B on your keyboard or Y on your controller to bring up the main modding menu.
  4. In the bottom right corner of the screen, you'll notice the "Rename" option. Select it.
  5. A text box will appear, allowing you to delete the current name and enter your desired name.
  6. Once you've entered the new name, confirm it.

And that's it! Now you can name your weapons whatever you like. Instead of wrestling with names like "One Inch Punch Calibrated Razorback," you can simplify it to something like "The Raylan Givens" (an excellent reference to the TV show Justified).

This renaming feature comes in particularly handy for keeping track of companion weapons. If you frequently swap weapons with your companions, giving them meaningful names can help you quickly locate and equip them. Plus, when interacting with your companions and trading gear, you can press B on the keyboard or Y on the controller to "equip" the weapon for them.

However, it's worth noting that you can't change the names of melee weapons. This limitation arises because melee weapons can't be modded. While this may seem like a minor drawback, it's hardly a game-breaking issue.
