The recent announcement of the new Elden Ring expansion, called Shadow of the Erdtree, has had the gaming landscape in a chokehold. With so many new enemies, bosses, and abilities being shown in the trailer, theorycrafting and predictions for all of the new content have started to circulate around the internet. One of the big debates going around is centered around where the new region is going to be found on the map and what kind of requirements players are going to have to meet in order to enter it.
DLC from previous games in FromSoft's catalogue have always had a certain place in the world from which you can access them, and Shadow of the Erdtree is no different. In this article, we are going to explain how and where you are going to be able to travel to the new region, called the Land of Shadow, in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

How to Start Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion
Even though many players already had a clue at where the starting point of the new Shadow of the Erdtree expansion would be just from watching the trailer, Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki quickly confirmed their suspicions in a recent interview with Famitsu. In the beginning of the trailer you can see an arm sticking out of the cocoon that can be found after defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood. This was already available in the base game and was one of the big mysteries that seemingly didn't lead anywhere. Many players speculated that this will be the entry point of the DLC and Miyazaki confirmed this stating:
Yes. The cocoon and arm you saw at the beginning of the trailer – this is actually the point of entry to the Land of Shadow where the players will enter to the DLC area.

You will be able to access the new Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in Elden Ring at the cocoon in Mohgwyn Palace, after defeating Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. You will be able to enter Mohgwyn Palace by using the Waygate Teleporter that can be found northwest of the Yelough Anix Ruins in the Consecrated Snowfield. After defeating these bosses you will be able to interact with the cocoon, sending you to the new zone features in the expansion, called the Lands of Shadow.
What lurks in the Lands of Shadow and what our objective will be there remains unknown, but from the trailer alone we can tell that it will be everything we expect from FromSoftware, including new enemies, bosses and equipment.
