The game offers an open world for players to explore by using a unique blend of parkour elements, however, Wuthering Waves’ main strengths lie in its characters and the gameplay.

What are Gacha Games

Before diving into whether Wuthering Waves is a gacha game or not, it is first needed to define what gacha games are.

Gacha games can simply be explained as video games that use the gacha (toy vending machine) mechanic. 

Gacha games work similar to games that use loot boxes to lure players in by offering in-game currency in exchange for a random in-game item.

In general, you can earn some in-game money by playing the game and some by paying real money to the game publisher.

Most gacha games that come out use this to primarily draw players in with the idea of them getting new characters.

The answer to that question is, yes!

Wuthering Waves is a gacha game in which you use in-game currency to wish/pull on the game’s character or weapons banners in order to get rewards at random.

Similar to other gacha games in the genre Wuthering Waves uses a pity system in which you can guarantee that you will get a 5-star, the highest rarity characters, by wishing on their banners a certain amount of times.

This is a mechanic meant so that people do not get discouraged to play even after wishing for a character for a while and not getting them.

Unfortunately, this does not mean that you will always get the characters you want, which still makes the game heavily reliant on luck and RNG.

Although Wuthering Waves is a gacha game, from what we’ve seen up until now, the developers, Kuro Games, have been open to giving out a lot of free characters and premium currency.
