Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 Finale: Review and Recap

It feels like the first season of Kaiju No. 8 ended in an instant because of how good and entertaining this show has been. Although it is sad knowing that we won't be seeing new episodes anytime soon, it is good that we have such a good and refreshing new-gen to look forward to. Without further ado, let's see what happened in the season finale! 

Director General Shinomiya vs Kafka

It has been one long week until we finally got to see what happened in the intense fight between Director Shinomiya and Kafka. For the first time, we saw Kafka lose control over his body and go absolutely feral. Although he was using Kaiju No. 2's armor, Director Shinomiya realized that Kafka was much stronger than he anticipated and took some pretty serious damage.

While the fight was getting more and more serious, Kikoru was already preparing herself for the scenario in which she would actually have to kill Kafka. However, as she remembered their moments together, she decided to believe in him even though the situation was looking very bad for him. One very important moment was when she realized her father was actually giving Kafka a chance to prove himself, which speaks a lot about his character.

With a lot of struggle, Kafka managed to overpower the Kaiju inside of him and attack himself instead of the Director. This is how the fight between the two ended, leaving total uncertainty about what's going to happen to Kafka.

Kafka's Destiny

It was time for the Defense Council to decide what they would do with Kafka. Captain Mina was called to give a statement regarding her subordinate but was told that no matter what she said, it wouldn't make any difference to their decision. Mina gave a very straightforward and unbiased report on Kafka's actions and behavior as a Defense Officer, which really shed light on how kind-hearted he actually is.

Although the rest of the members blamed her for trying to cover for her subordinate, the Director General made up his mind. Instead of being turned into weapons, Kafka would now fight on the Defense Force's side and protect humanity.

Director Shinomiya visited Kafka in the hospital and told him the news himself. Happy to see that he didn't harm Kikoru's father, Kafka was determined to prove his worth.

Kaiju No.8 Ending Scene

We see everyone from the Third Division happy after hearing the news of Kafka's release. While it seemed that the season would end on a happy note with everyone cheering for Kafka, we see Kaiju No. 7 working on his plan to kill Kafka. What's more, he is becoming smarter and smarter as we see him practicing chess. It is certain that he will become a bigger threat than he was, especially since it looks like there is another Kaiju that resembles Kaiju No. 7 standing next to him.
