Which Teams Will be Battling on the Rift?
A total of 16 teams will be playing with 14 teams that prequalified during the regular season of this year and two additional teams that qualified from the first stage of the League of Legends World Championship. Games from the second stage of the tournament start on October 18 from 10 p.m. PST and on October 19, 5 a.m. GMT 1 p.m. GMT+8, respectively. The match order will be as follows:
- T1 vs TL
- C9 vs MAD
- GEN vs GAM
- JDG vs BDS
- G2 vs DK
- NRG vs WBG
- FNC vs LNG
- BLG vs KT
Riot Games have provided a helpful diagram showcasing how the stage will play out. The format is Best of 1 (Bo1) where teams need 3 wins in order to advance to the next stage or if they lose 3 games they are eliminated.

After each round, new matchups will be drawn for the next round. A total of 5 rounds will be played out during the Swiss Stage. Qualification and Elimination matches will be Best of 3 (Bo3).
What is at Stake for the Contendors?
The total prize pool of the Championship is $2,225,000 USD, with the first place prize being $445,000 USD. After a nail-bitting Stage 1 series, the qualifying teams BDS and GAM will have to face off even harder opponents in the second stage of the tournament.
This year's format promises a lot of upsets and reverse-sweeps as many viewers should expect a real bloodbath on Summoner's Rift, but there can be only one winner to take it all.
