In 2023, Sledgehammer Games is releasing Modern Warfare III, a sequel to Infinity Ward's 2022 release, Modern Warfare II. This sequel promises significant gameplay changes and, notably for players, includes all 16 maps from MW2 (2009) fully remastered and updated for the current era.
Given the highly positive response from the Call of Duty community to this announcement, it appears that a similar concept may be considered for the upcoming Treyarch title in 2024, as suggested by recent leaks.
Remastered Black Ops 2 Maps?
According to the reliable leaker known as El Bobberto (BobNetwork), plans for this approach might be in motion for the 2025 Call of Duty release, following Treyarch's 2024 launch.
In a tweet posted on September 10, El Bobberto stated: "This is very likely to change within the next 2 years, but COD 2025 seems to be like MWIII but for Treyarch’s 2024 title, featuring BO2 multiplayer map remasters."
It's worth noting that these plans could evolve over the course of the next two years and might depend on the reception of MW3 and how players respond to the remastered maps in that game.
Black Ops 2 featured 14 maps at launch, including:
- Aftermath
- Cargo
- Carrier
- Drone
- Express
- Hijacked
- Meltdown
- Overflow
- Plaza
- Raid
- Slums
- Standoff
- Turbine
- Yemen
Given that the game is expected to launch around November 2025, and considering the release of two new Call of Duty titles with numerous decisions to be made in the interim, it's impossible to predict the final form of the game or even the developer behind it if these plans come to fruition.
