LoL 14.16 Mid Lane Tier List: Best Ranked Midlaner Champ Picks

Katarina is back to being OP thanks to a significant buff to her Q. Before picking her in Ranked, keep in mind that she's a very hard-to-play champion - there's a difference between a regular Kata player and a good Kata player. She can carry like no other but it's a challenge to get there.

PROS:

• High snowball and carry potential

CONS:

• Very difficult to master, quite easy to feed with her

The recent buff to Syndra's Ult gave her the boost she needed to go up a rank and land in the S-Tier. She's a versatile champion, offering some amazing clears and burst.

PROS:

• Great in team fights
• Lane bully

CONS:

• Squishy
• No mobility
• Relies on skill-shots

Sylas got nerfed recently but Riot gave him a serious buff in the recent update. He's absolutely killing it in the recent meta!

PROS:

• Versatile
• Duelist

CONS:

• Short range

Vex is still an absolutely amazing pick in 14.16. She's hard to counter as a hyper-mobile assassin, especially by mobile champions, such as Yasuo, who trigger her passive. 

PROS:

• Insane burst
• Great wave clear

CONS:

• Squishy
• Mana hungry

The queen of mid-lane takes back her rightful spot in the S-Tier. With a powerful charm and mobility, Ahri is exactly what you need for solo queue.

PROS:

• Great wave clear
• Amazing mobility

CONS:

• Squishy
• Uses a lot of mana and she's heavily reliant on it

Lux is still doing amazing as both midlaner and support. Her kit has everything - damage, shield, short cooldowns, and utility. Lux can carry you out of low elo easily, as long as you know how to play her well.

PROS:

• Great burst damage
• Easy to play
• Short cooldowns late and mid-game

CONS:

• Squishy
• Skillshot-reliant

Galio has been a very stable champion pick for a few patches now. If you're looking for a tanky midlaner - he's the guy for you.

PROS:

• Great AoE 
• Crowd control
• Tanky

CONS:

• Long cooldowns
• Outpoked

Akali is a very decent assassin pick, with a lot of mobility and burst. Do keep in mind that she's one of those champions who either carry or drag the team down - feeding with her can be quite easy.

PROS:

• Mobile
• Insane burst

CONS:

• Squishy
• Difficult to master

Yasuo got buffed in the last LoL patch and he's still absolutely OP. We all know how insane he can be if played well...

PROS:

• Huge carry potential in low elo
• Annoying lane bully
• Dominates team fights

CONS:

• High ban and pick rate
• Low elo players don't play him well (huge feed potential)

If you've been following our Midlaner tier lists, you would know that Yone and Yasuo always chart together. He's quite powerful in the current meta.

Zed takes his place among the holy trinity of "get fed or fed", right beside Yone and Yasuo. He's very strong in the current meta but his ban rate is growing.

PROS:

• Mobility
• Hyper carry
• Insane damage

CONS:

• Short range
• Weak early on

Aurora wasn't scary upon release, with players still trying to figure out how to play her properly. However, right now she's absolutely amazing. The only downside is her INSANE 40% ban rate.

PROS:

• Amazing burst
• Mobility
• Great early game

CONS:

• Squishy
• Mana-dependant

Speaking of ban rates, LeBlanc is very powerful right now but, similar to Aurora, she gets banned quite often - in 28% of the games.

• Good damage
• Very mobile

CONS:

• Squishy
• Dependent on items

Riot didn't change Brand in this patch. He's still doing lots of damage while also being very easy, and fun to play.

• Amazing AoE damage
• Easy to pick up and master

CONS:

• Bad utility
• Easily out-sustained 

Xerath's long-range abilities seem endless, constantly bombarding opponents and keeping them at a distance. If you enjoy controlling the battlefield and zoning out your opponents, Xerath is an excellent choice.

PROS:

• Long range
• Insane burst and DPS

CONS:

• Squishy
• Dependent on items

Qiyana was a forgotten champion pick but the recent patch changed that. She got a huge overhaul of her Q, W, R, and Base Armor, making her way more valuable on the Summoner's Rift.

PROS:

• Good roaming
• Underrated

CONS:

• Can't solo carry
• Difficult to master

Veigar is doing amazing in the current meta, he's not just not as OP as the champions listed before him. However, he's easy and fun to play. Plus, his kit is great.

PROS:

• Limitless AP gain
• CC
• Insane burst and damage

CONS:

• Squishy
• Mana hungry
• Easily-avoidable CC

Aurelion Sol got nerfed in patch 14.15, which landed him in the A-Tier. She's stable and performs very well.

PROS:

• Great in team fights
• Solo carry potential

CONS:

• Weak early game
• Mana-hungry

Hwei is doing much better in the current meta and you should definitely pick him up while he's still good.

PROS: 

• Versatile
• Good wave clear

CONS: 

• Squishy
• Hard to master

Diana is a great choice for Ranked due to her excellent roaming. She can keep everything under control. 

PROS:

• Mobility
• Roaming
• One combo and the enemy is a goner
• Great in team fights

CONS:

• No easy way out once you go all in

Vladimir got buffed in LoL patch 14.15 and he's still doing very well in the current meta.

Malzahar continues to be very strong. He might start off a little weak but he scales very well and it's amazing once you get good items.

PROS:

• Good scaling 
• Great wave clear

CONS:

• Weak before level 6
• Squishy

She’s a champion who truly rewards players who invest time in learning her. With her deceptive abilities and versatile playstyle, Neeko can outsmart opponents and turn the tide of any Ranked game.

PROS:

• Great roaming and CC
• Amazing wave clear 
• Easy to play

CONS:

• Falls behind easily and can't get good again

Swain is doing some amazing damage and he's very satisfying to play as. His win rate is growing which is even better.

PROS:

• Versatile
• Lots of AoE damage
• Great in team fights

CONS:

• Mana-dependent and mana-hungry
• Immobile

Oriana lost her popularity but she's back in the meta after LoL update 14.16 introduced a buff to her Q. It's not much but you can definitely feel the difference.

Zoe's kit requires precise timing and positioning, but once you get the hang of it, she can easily burst down enemies and control the battlefield with her tricky abilities.

• Carry potential

CONS:

• Squishy
• Difficult to master

Azir used to be the mid-laner with the lowest win rate in LoL patch 14.14. However, he got buffed with patch 14.16 and he's performing much better now.

PROS:

• Good damage

CONS:

• Mana-reliant
• Weak early on 

Irelia is losing relevancy in the mid-lane tier list but she's still very decent.

PROS:

• Mobile
• Easy CC
• Great damage

CONS:

• Reliant on CC
• Difficult to master

Viktor got to the B-tier in LoL patch 14.16 and he's staying here.

PROS:

• Good wave clear
• AoE burst

CONS:

• No mobility
• Weak early on

Heimer is doing better than he used to but keep in mind that he's never been the type of champion to solo carry games.

PROS:

• Good wave clear
• Great poke and zoning
• Amazing AoE and CC

CONS:

• Squishy
• Can't carry
• Useless without turrets

Cassiopeia is doing simply okay in the current midlaner meta, although she got some changes introduced to her in the last patch.

With his high poke and AoE damage, Ziggs remains strong. He’s also a lot of fun to play and can be a real bully in the lane. His ability to consistently harass opponents from a distance and control the wave makes him a powerful pick.

PROS:

• Great late game
• Amazing zoning

CONS:

• Squishy
• Mana hungry

Ryze is a versatile champion who can seamlessly fit into any team composition. His ability to adapt to different playstyles makes him a strong pick in various situations. One of Ryze's standout strengths is his excellent split-pushing capability, which is so important for winning Ranked games.

Annie has a straightforward kit and reliable crowd control can make a big impact in coordinated play. However, solo carrying with Annie will be extremely difficult.

• Stun

CONS:

• Easily avoidable Ult

Midlane Karma is doing a little better in patch 14.16 but she's nowhere near her glory days at the beginning of the season.

PROS: 

• Versatile
• Shield
• Good Q

CONS: 

• Squishy

Despite his new skin, Jayce is going to the C-Tier. The recent buff he got wasn't enough to make him OP.

PROS:

• Good poke
• Unexpected pick at this point

CONS:

• Hard to play
• Very weak currently

Smolder is not the type of midlaner or ADC you should go for unless you main him and you really wanna do it.

Midlane Zeri is definitely not an optimal choice but... sure, go ahead if you insist.

Things seem to be getting even worse for Lucian who's ranking down in the current mid-lane tier list.

PROS:

• Amazing duelist
• Very mobile

CONS:

• Short range

Caitlyn is no longer a viable midlaner and we won't be seeing her in the next tier list article.

Similar to Caitlyn, Tristana is not the OP midlaner she used to be.

Corki might be fun but he's a definite pass for the mid-lane. 

Patch 14.15 nerfed Ezreal and he's been stuck in the lowest tier ever since.
