Esports have been dominated by League of Legends for the past few years, with even more people tuning in to watch their favorite pro players battle it out on Summoner's Rift whether in their respective regions or on the international stage.
Whether you are a casual fan or a diehard believer in your team, Esports offers you the best of both worlds and it seems that the LoL Esports Staff is looking to integrate a new Global Power Rankings system in similar fashion to other traditional sports. With that being said, we will take a look at what we know so far about the new system.

Global Power Rankings
This brand-new system will be launched alongside the League of Legends 2024 World Championship. Given how the game differs a lot from traditional sports due to an ever-shifting meta, alongside regional differences, it can be quite tricky to find a perfect way of measuring ELO and Power Scores for teams across the world.
The dynamic nature of League of Legends—with its frequent meta shifts, varying regional league structures, and diverse play styles—demands a more nuanced approach.
However, this new approach should signify a predictive accuracy of 65%, and possibly through the use of AI, might become even better as time goes on and more matches are played out during the next competitive season of LoL.
It seems that the Esports scene is working towards a more refined and detailed way of evaluating the performance of all League of Legends teams with the intention of bringing even higher stakes and bigger excitement for fans wanting to root for their favorite organization.

Power Score Calculation
The brief explanation is that each team will have its own Power Score calculated by their Team ELO and League ELO. In Layman's terms, each team will have its own ELO based on their expected performance and actual game result and will have several factors (K factors) that will adjust the power or importance of the calculations.
League ELO will be calculated at a regional level, but international events will have a higher impact on ELO estimation as high-stakes matches carry a lot of pressure in regards to performance.
To maintain a balance between current form and historical performance, the Esports team staff have adopted a multi-year evaluation window:
- League ELO is evaluated over a 3-year window (2022-2024)
- Team ELO is evaluated over a 2-year window (2023-2024)
This approach increases the sample size of international games, which is particularly important for smaller regions, while still accounting for the potential impact of roster changes.
