Modern Warfare 3 Devs Confirm the Return of the ACR

The developers at Sledgehammer Games have cleverly alluded to the reappearance of the much-loved ACR assault rifle through an image included in a recent social media update related to Modern Warfare 3.

Throughout the history of the Call of Duty franchise, a handful of weapons have etched their place as timeless favorites. Whether we think of the M164A from COD 4, the Famas from Black Ops 1, or the MP40 from World at War, there's always that one firearm that profoundly shapes a game's meta, for better or for worse.

For instance, the haunting memories of the Akimbo Model 1887 shotguns reigning terror in MW2 (2009) lobbies still give players chills. However, in a stark contrast, the ACR garners universal adoration. On Infinity Ward's official website, the ACR secured the top spot as the most favored assault rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Given this backdrop, it's only logical that when Sledgehammer Games announced the revival of all 16 original MW2 maps for Modern Warfare 3, the ACR would finally find its way back into the limelight.

Sledgehammer Games took to Twitter to introduce a thread unraveling the new tactical stance movement mechanic that will debut in Modern Warfare 3. Yet, it takes no detective to discern that the weapon featured in the social media post is none other than the ACR.

The community members were quick to pick up on this detail and expressed their excitement in the comments section.

One player exclaimed, "This is exactly what we've been waiting for," while another user chimed in with, "Alright, this game is now a definite must-play."

Nevertheless, some community members maintain a degree of reservation. The Warzone Loadout account raised doubts about whether the firearm would retain the ACR moniker, and others within the community fervently wished for it to become a staple in the game's meta.

It's noteworthy that since Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (2016), the inclusion of an ACR in the series had remained absent. Until Sledgehammer Games officially unveils the rifle's name, it's wise to temper our enthusiasm and not let anticipation run wild.
