Modern Warfare 3 Might Not Be Available On Last Gen-Consoles

After enjoying a three-year run on both old and new-generation consoles, the era of Call of Duty (COD) spanning the different console generations may be concluding with Modern Warfare 3.

In 2020, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War marked the series' transition to the next generation of consoles, providing COD players with the novel experience of multiplayer and battle royale matches featuring 120 FPS, ray tracing, and remarkably fast load times. This was a significant moment in franchise history.

Fortunately, recognizing the challenges faced by many players in acquiring a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, Activision ensured that no one was left behind. Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, and MW2 were also launched on previous-generation consoles. To provide context, Black Ops 3 was the final game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

This implies that the PS3 and Xbox 360 managed to hold on for three years before the series fully embraced the latest hardware. However, a recent leak related to Modern Warfare 3 suggests that a similar timeline could be in store.

Will Modern Warfare 3 Be Available on Xbox One and PS4?

On August 10, a reputable COD leaker, TheGhostOfHope, shared an image of a rating listing for Modern Warfare 3, which notably listed Xbox Series X|S as the platform. This implies that MW2 might be the final entry in the series available for Xbox One and PS4.

However, TheGhostOfHope clarified, "It looks like it'll be available on PS4/PS5 according to Sony, BUT there have been games where they were available on PS4 but not on Xbox One. Could be another case of that here."

This news is likely to disappoint some community members who haven't made the jump to the latest consoles yet. Still, for the majority of fans, this rumor is a cause for celebration.

Before celebrating prematurely, a player raised a valid question about why weapons, operators, and bundles would carry over from MW2 to MW3 if last-gen players don't have access to the game.

As with any rumor, it's crucial to approach leaked information with caution. Hopefully, Modern Warfare 3's in-game reveal event will provide clarity on the fate of last-gen players, confirming or dispelling this speculation.
