MHA Season 7 Episode 8: Recap and Review
The episode began with Toya's backstory, detailing the time he spent away from his family and how he grew up to become the villain he is now. Although we have known Dabi's real identity since Season 6, it was still sad to see how Endeavor treated him. Desperate to impress his father and become stronger, one day Toya waited for Endeavor at his training spot to show him his progress.
When Endeavor didn't show up, Toya was devastated and lost control of his flames, resulting in him burning his entire body. At that moment, it was All For One who found Toya and took him into his care.

Toya then wakes up in an unknown place and learns that it has been three years since the day he injured himself. In the time that passed, he had grown up and his voice had deepened. It turns out that Shigaraki's doctor, Garaki, was the one who saved him and somehow repaired his body. The league planned to use Toya as a spare for All For One in case Shigaraki failed. However, Toya's growing resentment towards his father became uncontrollable.
He ran away from the league, and Garaki expected him to die within a month due to his weakened body. However, his resentment pushed his limits further, and Toya eventually returned to All For One's league with the desire to defeat Endeavor someday.

We then return to the current fight, with Dabi judging Todoroki for being so weak despite growing up in the perfect environment to become stronger. Dabi's flames are insanely strong, and he even uses some of Endeavor's moves, although they are a bit sloppier. However, Todoroki has a new move, a perfect mix of fire and ice, which perfectly counters Dabi's strong flames.
We saw a flashback of a wholesome moment when Todoroki told Midoriya about his new power and how he managed to accept his strength and make it his own. Todoroki thanking Deku was a direct reference to their first fight when Midoriya helped him accept his powers despite his father's influence.

The fight between the two brothers continued, becoming even more intense and heated (literally). Both of them were very strong, but what those scenes ultimately portrayed was pure sadness. The way they were brought up was unfair, and the fact that Todoroki had to kill his brother was tragic.
What made their battle all the more heart-wrenching was the moment Todoroki landed his final and deadly blow on Dabi, but they were depicted as kids. Seeing the two of them in that position but as their past selves was probably the saddest scene this season. Todoroki took care of his family's biggest "mistake," which was the result of Endeavor's hopeless desires.
