As the release of Cyberpunk 2077's first expansion, Phantom Liberty, approaches on September 26, players are eagerly anticipating the new content, which includes the addition of renowned actor Idris Elba to the cast. However, there's a disappointing revelation: players won't have the option to romance Idris Elba's character in the expansion.
In Phantom Liberty, Idris Elba portrays Solomon Reed, a highly skilled member of the Federal Intelligence Agency. While the expansion's trailer has left much of the storyline shrouded in mystery, players had hoped for the possibility of romancing Elba's character. Regrettably, during an interview with IGN, Elba confirmed that romantic involvement with his character is not an option.
When a fan inquired about the possibility of romancing Elba's character, he responded swiftly, stating, "I'm not a romance option." This news follows the absence of a romance option with Keanu Reeves' character, Johnny Silverhand, in the base game.
Despite the absence of romantic opportunities with Elba's character, Cyberpunk 2077 featured well-crafted characters with whom players could pursue romantic relationships. Perhaps Phantom Liberty will introduce additional romance options. However, given the compelling story and the new Dogtown district, players may find themselves too engrossed in the main narrative to explore romantic subplots.
In the recent cinematic trailer for Phantom Liberty, Reed is depicted attempting to board a train in Night City. However, he becomes ensnared in an ambush orchestrated by a group of agents, implicating him alongside one of his Netrunner associates. The events in the trailer are from seven years ago, and it concludes with President Rosalind Myers' ship being struck by a missile in space and seemingly crashing in Night City.
Players can expect that upon the ship's arrival, their character (V) will become involved, establish contact with Reed, who appears to still be alive, and embark on a mission to rescue the president. Fortunately, all will be revealed when the expansion launches on September 26.
