Surviving the tough conditions in the post-apocalyptic world of Once Human is definitely not an easy task. Among the many challenges that you'll encounter in the game, you'll need to find a way to have constant access to food and drinks to keep you alive and give you some necessary buffs so you can progress fast.
However, simply finding those resources is not going to be enough. Preparing tons of food is pointless if it goes bad within a day. This article will give you the information you need in order to learn how to store your food and keep it fresh on your journey through Once Human.

Once Human How Long Does Food Last
It's never a good idea to walk around hungry in Once Human. This will take a huge toll on your health, and you will not be able to recover over time if you reach starvation, so make sure to always have food in your bag when you decide to explore the area. Canned goods are great, but keep in mind that they are only used as snacks and aren't as nutritious as cooked food.
Full meals that you have prepared on the stove will restore a lot of your hunger and even some additional stats. The only problem here is that cooked food expires. This also applies to meats, fish, and produce. You can always hover over your meals in the inventory to see how long you have before they spoil. After 24 hours, your food will be marked as Spoiled, and you won't be able to consume it.

Once Human How To Unlock The Meat Dryer
Drying your meats is one of the best options in the game, and you can do that by simply using a Meat Dryer. It can be unlocked through your Memetics menu, which can be accessed by pressing K and then opening the Cradle tab. You will see the cooking-related Memetics under Logistics. After you have unlocked the Stoves and Cooking I Memetics, you will be able to get the Air Drying ability. Here is how to craft the Meat Dryer:
Materials | Quantity | Obtained by |
Copper Ingot | 10 | Smelting Copper Ore in a Furnace |
Metal Scraps | 15 | Exploration or disassembling scraps |
Log | 20 | Chopping down trees |
Be aware that you will need Meme Points or Ciphers, as well as Energy Links, in order to unlock a new Memetics branch. You can earn Ciphers by leveling up your character and completing seasonal challenges.

Once Human How To Dry Meat
In order to use the Meat Dryer, you will need meat and salt. Thankfully, they aren't very difficult to obtain. You can craft salt on a Campsite or a Stove by using Seawater. Place the salt into the Salt Input slot and add the meat to the Raw Materials slot.
All you need to do is wait for several minutes for the meat to turn into Preserved Meat. There is no way for this to spoil, even if you keep it in your inventory forever. However, you need to be careful because consuming Preserved Meat will reduce the points in your Hydration bar, so always keep drinkable water in your bag.

Once Human How To Get A Fridge
Once you have unlocked Cooking II and Electric Stoves Memetics, you will be able to get the Refrigeration Memetic. This branch will give you the opportunity to craft a Fridge that can be placed on your territory to make your food last for six days. This is also very important if you don't want to spend all your time gathering and preparing food. You will need the following materials to craft a Fridge:
Materials | Quantity | Obtained by |
Steel Ingot | 15 | Smelting Iron Ore in a Furnace |
Copper Ingot | 10 | Smelting Copper Ore in a Furnace |
Standard Parts | 15 | Exploration or disassembling scraps |
Glass | 10 | Smelting Gravel in a Furnace |
Electronic Accessory | 20 | Exploration or disassembling scraps |
When you have crafted the Fridge, you will need to get some electricity to supply it. Wire it to a source of energy, and you will be able to store your food inside. Have fun and good luck on your next adventure! For more information about Once Human, you can check out this article.
