Ahead of Season 6's launch, Overwatch 2 developers are cautioning players about potential lost progress on their hero lifetime challenges. The upcoming season, known as Overwatch 2: Invasion, will bring exciting additions, such as PvE story missions, hero mastery missions, a new core game mode, a fresh support hero, and a revamped player progression system.

However, players need to be aware that certain progress might be lost when the new system is implemented. Specifically, the current lifetime hero challenges' progression will not transfer to the next season. The developers clarified that completed lifetime challenges for individual heroes, which reward player icons, will be carried over to the new progression system. But, any incomplete challenges' progress will be reset during the update.

A developer on the Blizzard forums reassured players that previously earned rewards from completing lifetime challenges would remain in their inventory after the transition. Players are advised to complete their ongoing challenges by the end of Season 5, as progress on them won't carry over to Season 6.

This isn't the first time Overwatch players have experienced hero progression loss during major updates. When transitioning from Overwatch 1 to Overwatch 2, hero progression underwent a similar non-transferable change.
