It's been only a few weeks since Mauga became the latest tank hero to join the Overwatch 2 roster, and players have already started to anticipate his departure from the meta. Mauga has received nothing but buffs since the original playtesting that happened during BlizzCon, and it seems like Blizzard might have overdone it. Big nerfs are already on the horizon, and in this article, we are going to go over what the future holds for Mauga in the Overwatch 2 meta.

Overwatch 2 Huge Mauga Nerfs Incoming
Mauga was initially available for free during the BlizzCon weekend, and after extensive player testing, the developers decided that he was too weak. Consequently, he was promptly buffed before he fully joined the roster. However, it seems like the buffs were a bit too much, as since his release in ranked, he has been far and away the best tank in the game. He is just too strong and oppressive, with very little counterplay available to stop him from wreaking havoc in games.
Now that Blizzard is back from the holidays, it seems like they agree. Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson tweeted that Mauga is going to be receiving 'harsh' nerfs on the next weekly reset. He also mentions that some of their initial hotfixes for the hero have 'failed,' and they want to be on the safe side with the next one.

This is what Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson had to say about the Mauga changes coming next week:
Targeting early next week for Mauga changes.
What to expect: Survivability nerfs, ammo nerf, and more. Changes may be harsher than what's necessary.
Why harsher? We've had some recent tech issues (a failed nerf hotfix before break). Want to be on the safe side of not strong.
We are definitely interested to see the full magnitude of these 'harsh' nerfs. Balancing in a game like Overwatch is very swingy, so even small changes might make the hero obsolete. We will make sure to keep you updated on any new information that arises surrounding the upcoming Mauga nerfs.
