Since Lifeweaver's debut, the support hero has faced considerable criticism due to an awkward kit and mediocre damage output. Even top Overwatch 2 streamers, like Dafran, abandoned him, describing the hero as "dogsh*t."
However, Season 5 brought about some improvements, making Lifeweaver a more viable option in the hero selection. Now, the developers are preparing to roll out further enhancements in the next patch.
Game Director Aaron Keller revealed that Lifeweaver has already made strides since launch, but Season 6 will see him become even more powerful. In particular, the Tree of Life ability will undergo a revamp, converting some of its ultimate healing into overhealth for allies.
With this change, Tree of Life will provide up to 100 additional health per player, resembling the mechanics of Brigitte's Rally ability. This adjustment should significantly improve Lifeweaver's ability to defend and secure objectives, particularly in the new Flashpoint game mode.
But that's not all—the hero will also receive added survivability by converting some of his health into shields, and the healing done by Rejuvenating Dash will be increased.
As these buffs are implemented, Overwatch 2 players will closely observe their impact, especially with the introduction of a new support hero to the mix. The developers have learned from Lifeweaver's initial release and aim to ensure the newcomer has a more impactful presence right from the start.
