Path of Exile has a ton of different ways you can play. Depending on what kind of mechanics you prefer, and what your build can do, there can be many ways for you to start farming currency. We'll be checking out the Harbinger mechanic today and gauging how easy it is to get into, how cheap it is to get it started, and how much currency you can begin making with a small investment.

How Does 'Harbinger' Work in Path of Exile?

Harbingers are a type of immortal monster. Harbingers summon enemies to fight the player while empowering them in different ways, and they can only be harmed by killing their minions. Harbingers can drop currency shards. At higher levels, Harbingers can also summon Obelisks that can attack or power up their monsters.

Path of Exile: How to Farm Harbinger

The best thing about Harbinger in Path of Exile is that you can farm it on any map you like. Harbinger doesn’t benefit from any specific layout. A good Scarab to run is the regular Harbinger Scarab because it increases the amount of Harbingers that spawn on the map.

Next, you’ll want to use a Harbinger Scarab of Warhoards, since it doubles the amount of currency Shards that drop. It’s a good idea to use a Harbinger Scarab of Regency, which increases the chance of Harbinger Bosses to spawn.

Last but not least, the Harbinger Scarab Discernment allows us to receive higher-tier currency Shards. With this strategy, you’ll also want to add Harbinger through your map device.

Path of Exile: Tips for Harbinger:

  1. Harbingers are not affected by quantity on maps, so it’s unnecessary to roll for a high quantity when rolling your map.
  2. This strategy relies more on luck, as you need rare drops to make a lot of currency.

  3. It’s advised to update your filter so you can take out the common Shards that don’t amount to much profit. It would be best if you didn’t waste your time picking all of them up.

  4. If your build can handle it, you can gather a few Harbingers at once and then clear them.

How to Set Up Your Atlas for Harbinger in Path of Exile

The easiest way to set up your Atlas in Path of Exile for Harbinger is to get all Harbinger nodes. The total points needed for the Harbinger nodes is 29. With all of the points left, you can either add another mechanic like Beyond or pick up most Scarab nodes on the tree. There are no bad Harbinger nodes. You can pair Harbinger with Expedition or Essence for a bigger profit.

Here is a good example of an Atlas ready for Harbinger by Empyriangaming, who’s been testing different league mechanics. If you want to see the results of farming 50 maps with the strategy, you can check out his video:
