Path of Exile has a ton of different ways you can play. Depending on what kind of mechanics you prefer, and what your build can do, there can be many ways for you to start farming currency. We'll be checking out the Ritual mechanic today and gauging how easy it is to get into, how cheap it is to get it started, and how much currency you can start making with a small investment.

How Does 'Ritual' Work in Path of Exile?

Rituals are a map event where several Ritual Altars appear, introduced in the Ritual League. Ritual Altars can appear within the Acts and Maps. After activating the Ritual Altar, players must defeat the enemies enclosed within the Ritual Circle, gaining a Tribute in the process. Players can then spend the earned Tribute to purchase various types of rewards including identified rare items.

All of the altars in the area are part of the same set, and share the same pool of rewards. Each successive Ritual in an area is harder and offers better rewards. Rituals spawn in various types, giving a different set of buffs to enemies and environmental effects.

Path of Exile Ritual Mechanics

The best way to run the Ritual mechanic in Path of Exile is to run maps where the Boss room is rather close to the beginning. It's ideal to run those maps with 2 Scarabs of Selectiveness which provides an additional re-roll and makes it so the first 2 re-rolls have no cost. Then you can use a Scarab of Recognition which increases the amount of Tribute received from Unique enemies by 200%.

Last but not least, a Scarab of Abundance is very useful as it increases the Favour offered by 100%. This totals at around 20 Chaos Orbs per map depending on the current prices. From here you can follow these easy steps:

  1. First, slay the monsters guarding the altar to activate it.
  2. Then, clicking the altar begins the ritual and the Ritual Circle appears on the ground.
  3. Monsters will spawn in multiple waves, each wave harder than the last. After defeating all the monsters, the combat phase ends and players can loot the altar. If the altar was located near a boss room, then the boss has a chance of spawning (again) within the ritual.
  4. Clicking the altar displays the Ritual Favors interface that allows players to select their rewards. Some rewards are hidden and will be revealed after more rituals on the same map are completed.
  5. You can then move to other areas of the Map and complete all the altars in order to unlock more rewards.

How to Set Up Your Atlas for Ritual in Path of Exile

In Ritual's case setting up the Atlas is not too hard. You'll need to grab most Ritual nodes but make sure to avoid Immutable Dogma which prevents us from rerolling Favours and Arbitrary Tenets which adds too much RNG to the Ritual prices. With the points left, we grab some increased map modifier nodes and some scarab nodes. You can try out this Atlas Tree by Empyriangaming, who's been testing different Atlas strategies. You can see the results of running 50 maps with this strategy in the following video:
