Popular paranormal investigation game Phasmophobia has received its first major update of 2024 with the release of patch v0.9.4.0. This update introduces a host of lighting improvements, gameplay tweaks, bug fixes, and more to enhance the overall ghost-hunting experience. The highlight of this update is the addition of new graphics settings like Eye Adaptation and Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI). These allow for more realistic light adjustments and bounced lighting effects in the game. Static lighting across all locations has also been overhauled, with increased ambient brightness.

Along with the lighting updates, v0.9.4.0 also implements adjustments to brightness sliders, improvements to hiding spots in Grafton farmhouse, and fixes for various glitches and safe spots. The holiday event with dancing snowmen has been removed. Motion sensors now properly display detections on the truck map.

  • New graphics settings added to the Journal (not available for VR; requires a graphics card):
    • Eye Adaptation: Simulates eyes adjusting to light/dark areas over time
    • Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI): Simulates bounced lighting; makes lighting/shadows less dark. 3 quality settings.
  • Static lighting overhauled in all locations
  • Ambient light increased
  • Light from outside sources (moon, streetlights) now shines through windows
  • Larger rooms/rooms with darker materials like farmhouses may look darker (intended)

  • Adjusted range/brightness of several location lights to be more realistic

    • Upstairs hallway armchair and nursery crib now hiding zones/can be blocked

  • Adjusted reflection probes in Tanglewood to stop glowing objects when the light turned on elsewhere
  • Can now take photo of Sunny Meadows summoning circle
  • Motion sensors now show detections on truck map correctly
  • Fixed safe spots in Sunny Meadows male room 5 and Maple Campsite Storage Tent 2
  • Ghost can no longer get stuck on fallen locker in School hallway
  • Campsite A and B in Maple Lodge now work correctly
