For a mobile game, Raid: Shadow Legends conceals an epic amount of depth beneath every Champion, Event, and artifact item. It's a lot to take in for a beginner! Unsurprisingly, it's easy to make mistakes while learning the basics. In this article, I'll be confessing to my worst mistakes as a new player and how you can avoid similar pitfalls on your own Raid account. Let's begin!

Raid: Shadow Legends Artifact Upgrade Tips

I upgraded way too many bad items! Upgrading artifacts is the best way to spend your Silver. It's also the quickest way to waste your Silver if you're dumping all of your coins on upgrading that shiny 2-star helmet all the way to +12 or, god forbid, +16. Just because it's of Rare quality doesn't mean it's automatically good!

Here are a few general rules that will help you avoid wasting Silver as a beginner:

  • Upgrade 3-star artifacts to level 4, or level 8 if they are of Uncommon or greater rarity
  • Only upgrade 4-star artifacts to level 12
  • Never upgrade an item to level 16 unless you are certain it is perfect for the Champion you are upgrading it for. (We'd recommend checking a reputable Champion build guide on YouTube!)

Raid: Shadow Legends Event Rewards

I ignored way too many in-game Events, wrongly assuming that they were designed for experienced players only. I couldn't have been more wrong, and in my first ever 'Champion Training Event,' I earned enough points to earn myself my first ever Primal Shard.

The lesson: Always check what Events are currently active as well as which Events are starting soon! You probably won't want to go hard in every single Event as a new player, but if you spot one that you're confident you can perform well in, give it your all and enjoy the free rewards!

Raid: Shadow Legends: Farming Food

I greatly underestimated how many Champs I'd need to level to rank up my Kael! This must be one of the most common rookie mistakes of them all; I walked right into it, and now my Kael is stuck at 5 stars until I fix it.

Here's a quick breakdown of all the 'food' you'll need to rank up a Champion to 6 stars:

  • 5 Champions at 5 stars
  • Those 5 Champions will require 20 4-star Champion sacrifices
  • And those 20 Champions at 4 stars will require 60 Champion sacrifices at 3 stars
  • And getting those 60 Champions to 3 stars requires sacrificing a huge 120 Champions at 2 stars

That's a lot of Champions to spread your XP amongst!

So, instead of focusing on clearing content early on and leveling up a powerful starting team, focus instead on leveling your starter Champion while spreading the rest of the XP among a ton of other Champs. When the time comes to rank up your starter Champion to 6 stars, you'll at least have a solid headstart.

Raid: Shadow Legends Mission Rewards

I fell super far behind with Missions. This isn't the worst mistake in the world, as catching up is pretty quick, but boy-oh-boy does it suck to backtrack. I'm currently having to go back and spend Energy re-clearing some of the easiest content in the game with my 5-star ascended Kael just to finish early Missions. You'll be far better off keeping your Mission track roughly in line with your Champions' power level.

Raid: Shadow Legends: Challenge Rewards

Similar to Missions, I didn't keep up with Challenges, and backtracking to finish the earlier Missions is no fun.

That said, some Challenges award chunky doses of Energy as a reward, and those rewards can be worth saving until you badly need the Energy boost, for example, during an Event grind. Use your best judgment when claiming Challenge rewards but, in general, try not to fall too far behind!
