Roblox has had a very love-hate relationship with its comment sections under Marketplace Items ever since they were added to the game in 2007. Now, the company has officially announced that marketplace comments will be permanently removed from Roblox as of April 9. Many players are now dissatisfied with this update and view it as either useless or uncalled for. Check out why Roblox decided to remove the comments and how this change will affect the marketplace from now on.

Why Roblox Removed the Comments Under Items on the Avatar Marketplace

Well, the answer to this is pretty simple: spam. Originally, the comments section for each item was intended for players to give their opinions and feedback on the specific product, which would help others. However, now you mostly see spam and unrelated comments.

Although some players find it amusing, it is understandable why Roblox would put an end to the constant spam. All the unnecessary comments are simply ruining the opportunity for players to interact with creators and provide direct feedback.

The Long History of Issues With the Marketplace Comments in Roblox

Not long after comments were first introduced in the marketplace, players began discussing irrelevant topics under some items, which led to constant spam. This went on for years until 2013, when Roblox implemented its first comment restriction, allowing only verified players to comment.

However, this measure didn't stop the spam, and users continued to abuse the comment sections. Consequently, Roblox completely disabled comments for all catalog items and later for all passes and badges.

It wasn't until UGC hats began appearing on the Roblox Marketplace in 2019 that comments were partially reinstated. All creators were given the choice of whether to enable comments or not. We all know how this turned out. After years of unnecessary comments persisting, in March 2024, Roblox decided to completely remove all comments from the Avatar Marketplace starting April 9th.

How Will This Affect the Roblox Marketplace?

While many people understand Roblox's reasoning behind this decision, some feel disappointed since they won't be able to read other users' feedback about certain items. Despite their drawbacks, comments allowed players to check if an item had any reported issues or even suggest different versions of an item they would love to buy. Unfortunately, what is done cannot be undone for now.

Moreover, Roblox will not be removing any old comments, which might still be helpful if you want to check some opinions on items. Roblox's developers have stated that they are looking for a way to allow players to express their thoughts on the items. Although we are yet to find out what this could be, for now, all we have are the existing comments.
