Mydei has finally made his way to Honkai: Star Rail and I have to say that I quite like him, but not for reasons that you might think. What I like about Mydei is solely his appearance. I enjoy collecting tall male-modeled characters in gacha games, and Mydei was bound to have a spot on my roster. And he’s also the second coming of Blade. Blade has been my main unit in Star Rail ever since he first came out, but sadly he’s been out of the meta for quite some time now. Luckily, with the introduction of Mydei, I can now finally fill that spot, but me aside, should you consider pulling for Mydei?

Is Mydei Strong?
Right now Mydei is in a decent spot thanks to just being released and the content being catered around him. However, while he’s decent now, I do not think that is going to continue for a long time. Mydei is an HP-scaling unit, and honestly, HP-scaling units have not had the best time in Star Rail. Blade was decent, but he was powercrept one or two versions after his release, and right now he’s barely usable. So while Mydei is strong now, I’m afraid he will suffer a similar fate in the future. However, future aside, right now he’s a powerhouse of a unit. He’s practically immortal, and he deals a ton of damage. Furthermore, he’s easy to build, with his main focus being HP, and he’s also easy to play, or rather, you don’t even play him; Mydei literally plays himself.
In short, Mydei is a strong HP-scaling unit that is easy to build and easy, sometimes even boring, to play, with the way he automatically goes on autoplay when he enters his [Vendetta] state.

Should You Pull for Mydei?

Just like any other DPS unit, I don’t recommend pulling for Mydei unless you really like the character. Some DPS units have better shelf life than others, and sadly I don’t see Mydei being really useful in the future. His HP scaling and Star Rai’s history of power creep make him a tough sell. If it weren’t for the fact that he had the tall male model and reminded everyone of Gilgamesh from Fate, I doubt he would have gotten so much traction. In addition, his playstyle is boring, and the character plays itself. While this may be fun for some users who don’t turn off the autoplay, not everyone will be a fan of this. Not having the ability to play a unit you just spent god knows how many pulls to get just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Having said that, I’m still pulling mainly due to needing to have all tall male model units on my account; however, if you aren’t like me and are simply looking at Mydei from an investment perspective, then I do not believe he is a great investment.
